Etihad has launched a new status match for Australians and Indians who currently hold Silver or higher status with selected airlines, including Qantas.

You can get Etihad Silver or Gold status for 3 months, and extend this for a further year by flying with Etihad at least once within those 3 months.

There is an application fee of USD59 for the Silver match or USD99 for the Gold match.

Details here:
And here is the Status Match website page to register:

I'm flying 4 EY J flights in a few weeks, but I want to credit to VAFF, is it possible to somehow also collect the extra year?

You would need to credit at least one flight to Etihad Guest and earn at least 1 mile.

If I were you, I'd just credit the shortest of the 4 flights to EY and the rest to Velocity.

This is a bit tricky because there is one "guest" for those flights, and it took ages on chat to change the rewards program from EY to VF.

Do a stopover in AUH.
Book a flight from AUH -> Somewhere -> AUH, within your stopover - credit to EY.

Or look at things a different way - If your EY flights are in biz/first: Do the gold match, credit everything to EY and your flights jump start you towards Platinum.

Just like the recent LATAM 'fee-for-status match' - run by statusmatch.com - although more transparent this time.

Minor note - it's not run by statusmatch.com in that it's some kind of external offer.
StatusMatch.com is the provider/partner - similar to how airlines use points.com to sell miles.

It's very much run by the airline - and the airline is using the SM platform.

As a Qantas and Virgin Platinum member, I can't see any benefits for me applying for a status match. But otherwise, it seems like a worthwhile offer, but only if you fly Etihad a fair bit.

Yeah, I can’t see a lot of benefit in it for me either. Might just keep crediting EY flights to VA

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I've lost my Velocity status as I now fly predominantly QF/JQ. Still gold with Qantas and platinum with Qatar which is due to expire shortly. I typically fly via Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha so this does have my attention. Flying from India to Abu Dhabi next month so would meet the requirements to extend the status. Would Etihad gold get me into the VA domestic lounges? Also, off topic but I've always been under the impression that paying for miles is terrible value, but Etihad seem to be running a promotion at the moment where the amount of miles to get a one way SYD - AUH business ticket works out to be ~$2800. Doesn't seem too bad considering a paid fare is usually double that, unless I'm missing something.

Yes plus one guest, and also extra baggage/priority check in and boarding.

I guess it's a case of availability. If you are willing to buy the miles and book right away then sure but it could be risky if overnight they increase prices or there are no longer any award seats.
