737-800 45 minutes after departure, God bless all those souls onboard.

Hoping for some positive news with regards to survivors.

Sounds as though the aircraft may have stalled due to climbing to avoid the bad weather. Doesn't explain the ball of fire though??[FONT=ARIAL,]

Balls of fire seen by witnesses often pop up in early coverage, including the Air France A330 incident, and it turns out that there were no witnesses at all or those that were real reported different things.

Ethiopian has quite a good record all things considered and their crew are generally regarded as highly skilled by peers, so its too early to really say what caused it, however a comparison with the Kenya Airways crash does present some similarities in terms of aircraft, flight status and weather:

Sadly the cause of that incident is still very much unknown or at least is not public knowledge.

There are some reports of 7 survivors: http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=20100125-0

I really didn't need to see the Kenya Airways incident. Have to fly with them soon...Sometimes I prefer ignorance.
