Ethernet over power issues

I recently got some Ethernet over power adapters. When I set them up everything worked fine and the suddenly the connection dropped out. So I've tried a few different things to fix the problem such as resetting the device and moving between outlets. The only way I can get them to work is to put both adapters in the same room on outlets that are on the opposite sides of the room.

So I'm scratching my head trying to work out why they're not working.

The offending devices are Netgear XAV1004 and XAV2601

They will need tone on the same circuit in th house. Also some appliances can interfere with it. Have you tried turning things off then slowly on to see what can affect it?

I did plug a few extra things into the powerboard and initially thought that was what caused it to stop working. After unplugging everything and then it not working I tried moving it around power points. I also unplugged the tv and everything else in the area where it's located and it still didn't work. I doubt its on the same circuit as on end in in the living room and the other is in a bedroom. I thought they only needed to be on the same phase?

They may not like powerboards... my flatmate bought some recently. After reading the instructions they didn't recommend powerboard use.

Spot on, especially of said power board has filters.

Ive got it plugged into the wall now and still not working.

Mine took a hit but worked when crossing circuit breakers but completely refused to work between two different RCDs (safety switches).

Move them around and try different power points. That's about my only suggestion.

I have three ethernet over power units running in an almost 200 year old heritage-listed building where it is essentially impossible to run cable to all locations and they have been working 24/7 for the past four months. If they can work in a place like this, then they can work in a regular home environment. They've got to be on the same circuit though.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

I can get them to work in the same room, but not in different rooms that (i think) are on the same circuit. The problem is where I need one end to be and where the other end is are on different circuits. I might have to look for another solution.

Ouch at different circuits. Yeah that will cause issues.

Surely you can find a wireless based similar product. But I can't recommend any.

Different circuits was my problem too. In the end I finished up having the house wires with network cable. Haven't looked back.

I'd do that too but I rent at the moment. I worked out a solution which basically means EOP will be consigned to a box in the spare room.

If your house has a single RCD (residual current device) to protect all the circuits (safety switch) then you can have the network adaptors on different circuits. If you have any sort of filter, like surge protected power board, or individual safety switch/ circuit breakers, it probably wont work, or it will degrade the performance.

With all the RF in modern houses, WiFi can also be degraded somewhat. Try to keep WiFi antennas away from bulk wiring.

Can't see why different circuits would make a difference. EoP is transmitted through the neutral line and these are all tied together at the meter.
