Hi all,

We are flying back from coughet mid-July and have an 8 hour stopover in SIN after arriving from HKT. Mum wants to see the Gardens by The Bay as we missed it last time but the Free Airport tour is way too late for JQ8 so I intend to arrange something privately.

I assume that baggage will be through checked from 3K to JQ but my question is. Does anybody have experience in entering Singapore during a transit and leaving their baggage at the airport? (ie. letting the airline take care of it)

Any advice and input would be appreciated. Thanks!

If the bags are checked all the way through - absolutely no problems leaving them in the care of the airline, even if leaving the airport.

Keen to hear how often they get checked through - did this routing a few years back and check in staff at coughet were useless, so we got stuck with our bags in Singapore. Doing the above flights in August, so keen to hear recent success rates!

I've never had a problem with baggage in SIN. (I have had problems getting boarding passes...)
If it's not checked through (and you don't have to worry about it), it is sometimes possible for the staff at the transfer counters to arrange that baggage sent to the belts in customs be found and diverted back to your next flight. It depends on the ground handler and the airline. I wouldn't expect it to be done for JQ.

I've had bags checked through on a 12 hour transit while I went into the city to go out drinking with friends.

Yeah, anything under 24hrs they should check bags through as its considered a transit and not a stopover. Unless you request otherwise.

Even if bags are not checked through then simply go to transfer D for JQ or transfer C for QF and show them your luggage tags and they will manually transfer your luggage to onward flight and issue boarding passes.

Only time you may have an issue is overnight connections on say a 7:00am flight and luggage has not been checked through. On arrival in SIN allow your luggage to go through to keeper. i.e. don't collect luggage and go to transit hotel or some lounge somewhere. Around 4:00am go and collect luggage from lost/left luggage and clear immigration and then check in for onward flight.

I have done these options many times.

If all else fails, baggage storage is available cheaply landside. For a few hours, it's just a few dollars for a bag.
