Not sure if anyone knows or have done, but in DXB is it possible to pass through security while in transit and then while in departures area choose to enter Dubai to return later for their flight?

Have a 22 hour transit in Dubai coming up in two days, land at 6am and depart 3am the following.

Have hotel deal lined up, but check in is not till 9am that will see me with a room till 3am if I want.

So since no lounge on arrival, thinking if I can go through security as I will have onward boarding pass with me to go to the lounge to kill time and shower etc, and then look to enter Dubai from transit/departures to immigration to hit hotel for some proper zzz's

Well in short you can.

Took the punt, asked the question, and was easier than I thought.

Simply pass through security as normal - they didn't even check if I had a boarding pass, but if you didn't, then you wouldn't be getting in the lounge either.

Then to get back, you simply return to security and ask to walk back through in reverse, and they let you - then make your way to customs.

Asked about it to three staff, all made it seem simple, normal, and easy - though it doesn't feel that normal walking back through security screening area in reverse, bag and all making scanners go off.

Been there, done that, piece of p..... easy

Good to know, thanks for posting. Might do something similar in the future.

How about a 6:45 transit, a long time to sit in the lounge. Is it worth/possible to do anything worthwhile in that time. I do have the capability to us EK chauffeur drive to drop me in the city and pickup.

You will always find something to do in Dubai and will find malls alive until very late. Whether to go out is really an individual decision.
There is a metro from the airport into the city, and the Dubai Mall and the Mall of the Emirates are both worth a visit if you've never been (indoor ski slopes, fountain shows, Bhurj Khalifa, Aquarium in a mall) otherwise beaches, bars and restaurants are easily found.
Near to the airport is the Irish Village, a bar/restaurant/beer garden which could be a nice way to spend a few hours without venturing too far.

You would also have enough time for a tour (sand dunes in a 4x4 etc).

What are you interested in?

If you can work in a desert safari 4x4 - they are well worth it.
