"Enjoy your journey"

There are lots of strange terms around. Some are just caught like a disease (listen to the PAs given by FOs...they all end exactly the same way, but there is no script as there is for the cabin crew PAs). Some just strike me as silly...i.e. QF calling people 'customers', and Virgin calling them 'guests' (which implies you didn't have to pay)...whatever happened to 'passengers'?

They exist on the radio too....pilots asking for something 'if/when available' (just ask - you won't get it if it isn't available). And why do BA always call themselves 'the Speedbird'- have they only got one? 'Make visual approach when visual' does have a specific meaning, but I always wonder if I could ask for one when not visual.

I've noticed on QF international lately that the CSM doing the announcements through the flights are pushing the duty free really hard boasting their extensive range and exclusive products not available on the ground and competitive prices (i always laugh at that).

Are QF management pushing this? I find it far too ryanair like for a supposed "premium" (there's that word again) carrier.
 
Pojnt 2 - Never complain about spending too much time in the SYD F longe, ever!!!! How can it be anything to complain about, really?

Oh, I wasn't complaining about the time spent in the F lounge. I was complaining about the announcements in there :D

I did not want to leave. Alas no delay on that flight.

I still couldn't believe that they boarded that flight from gate 63, which is (no kidding) the furthest possible gate and even past the star alliance lounges.

Speedbird is a callsign used by British Airways during air traffic control procedures, as well as the name for the stylised British Overseas Airways Corporation logo.

Speedbird 1 was revived for the business service from London City Airport to New York JFK via Shannon, and Speedbird 2 for the flight from JFK direct to London City.

Speedbird continues to be used by British Airways as a callsign, although British Airways domestic services use the callsign Shuttle. BA subsidiary company BA Connect used British as its callsign before the sale to Flybe, and BA franchise operators continue to use their own callsigns, despite operating BA flights. BA Christmas charter flights use Santa instead of Speedbird.

Yep, it appears that it's the new marketing campaign. It's about as annoying as the singing children, however I do feel that the journey is as important as the destination, so I can see it working as a point of difference marketing strategy.
 
It'd be nice if they worked on improving customer service and actually making the journey enjoyable, rather than just telling us that it should be!

Yes it is rather funny. Does QF actually sell any "exclusive products"?

To be fair to QF it would appear that CX do the same thing. One of the first things that happen as soon as the seat belt sign is extinguished is the CSM/FA's walk up and down the cabin with the duty free catalogue asking if anyone wants duty free.
 
It's not the Speedbird term that amuses me. It's their use of 'the' in front of the term. Singular....but I'm sure they have more than one jet.

It was the fact their pilots used driving gloves that amused me, and they were often referred to as Birdseed.

Had it a couple of times but mainly on the CBR route. Maybe they only do it when there is actually a CL member on board...

Varies from flight to flight. I've never heard it, and I've been on quite a few peak flights in and out of CBR where most of J has been CL.
