As reported on Channel Ten's 1700 news today, Angela Bishop as paxing to LAX on QF11 when the takeoff run was aborted at SYD

Number 1 engine.

After clearance from the Firies - the aircraft returned to gate 8 at SYD - the pax were deplanned and later departed on a different aircraft at 1900.

QF just cannot win a trick........

OMG! An airline has an engine issue. Quick - Call NoNews, Channel 10, AAP and the other usual beat-up candidates.

Oops, I'm already too late. They've already been contacted.

I presume Angela Bishop preferred being safe and delayed rather than never arriving ... But hey, why let that sort of thing interfere with a good news story. (I see she is already quoted as indicating the plane "hit something" ... yep - nice and reliable).

Much ado about nothing .
A spotter who is a member of the Sydney airport message board reports that the aircraft involved was VH-OJO.
It was OJO; I was at the beach and others with me heard a real loud bang is it started its take-off roll, it then stopped and after some tenders investigated it taxied down the runway back to the gate. As there were a/c taxiing up on Alpha OJO couldn't turn off so continued down 34L.

Couldn't have said it better. And of course in her 'report' she had to mention that they were not he same engines as the A380  And all news stories relating to Qantas have to have the following words mentioned: A380, QF32, Rolls Royce. Did she want them to take off with that problem? And to make it worse, this was the second most important news story of the day according to 10. Meanwhile, something is happening in QLD.....

Things happen everyday to airlines - planes get delayed, they arrive late, something breaks, there are go arounds...........

You may have mistaken her for a blimp with teeth ;)

Not suprised the plane couldn't get off the ground!!

hahahaha!!

Watch out - no news will be after you!

I love this....

"By the looks of it, the engine flamed out," American man Michael Lucas-Smith, a passenger on the plane, told Australian Business Traveller. "We were on the runway, picking up speed and we heard a 'pop' sound."

It didn't take long for the over the top article from news now.

Blow-up grounds Qantas flight bound for LA | News.com.au

The comments aren't much better, usual overseas maintenance aspects...

No News wont publish my comments - in another long run of me posting a comment and not being published.

The comments posted on there so far, I bet all the same person... No News is a shonky operator at the best

The never publish my comments, even if I use a different ISP. They are only interested in comments from people who have no knowledge of the subject. The news media for the proudly ignorant.

It takes a lot of hard work to be a published commenter with newscorp. I was a serial letter writer and commenter for maybe 5 years. I had about 5 to 10 letters published in that time. I usually had all my comments published.

The basic thing is you need to write in something every day or atleast twice a week on a range of topics not just one topic. You also need to remember they are looking for a diverse range of opinion. If you are saying something that is just the same as everyone else, especially in a letter, it won't get up. Or you'll see only one person have their comment published. I often had this with letters were I'd miss out but another letter would say exactly my message. The sub editors need to know your name.

As for the media bashing in this thread. Stop it you'll have a heart attack. Besides IMO you're being unrealistic. As an example to back up my opinion (and not picking on anyone). The fact that 10 mention the engines are different to those in the A380 is about informing people. There are 20000 people on AFF that know they are different but there are 20 million people in Australia about 95% of which won't have the first clue about the engines, especially the types that watch 10. It is good journalism to mention what is obvious to experts but the public have no idea about. Read trade news sources if you want news pitched at experts.

It is funny that one of the comments from news.com.au alludes to this website.

It's for incidences like this which seem to happen at least weekly and even more often than that, I have cut up my newly arrived replacement Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer card, and placed it along with the new electronic tags sent to me in the bin where they belong. These incidences are not coincidences or a bit of bad luck. Combine that with the appalling service onboard even in business class and it's a wonder QF has lasted this long. Try contacting customer service and an automated email arrives saying they will get back to you in a few weeks. Seriously! Obviously it takes that long to sort out all the complaints they have to deal with. There are message boards devoted to Qantas and its frequent flyer scam. They seem to think news.com.au has a vendetta against QF. It's just constant whinging and excuse making. It seems QF just is in 24/7 damage control so please continue to alert the public about such incidences as it's in the interest of all travellers.

Mate, I am an expert. They published me initially, but when I consistently pointed out the errors in the articles, and sometimes questioned the motives behind them, I became unpublishable. Not unexpected given their behaviour (of which I have first hand experience).

Yep, I am very aware that you're an expert and very thankful for your input. I did say that news are looking for a diverse range of opinion. I forgot to mention that basically rules out the experts. I'm an expert in my field and News and media in general constantly write rubbish about the area. I basically don't write or comment on stories involving my expert area, however, I have been quoted by news once in a story.

Basicaly they are just trying to write something for you average reader (with a year 10 education on average at best). BTW I have also suffered the relevance depravation syndrome when pointing out the bais in News limiteds political reporting. Maybe it was those labels that I applied to Albrectsen and Bolt. ;) :D

You also need to remember they are looking for a diverse range of opinion.

I think I've just thought of a way to make lots of money-I'll start up an intenet forum for people who want to read stories about Qantas engine failures and comment on them,I'll call it Morons.Com and they can rabbit away till their hearts content, how do I make money you ask? simple I charge them a subscription fee of $10.00 per download.
Most of them are so thick they won't be able to submit their credit card number quick enough!.
It was a low speed compressor failure ,big deal.
Move along people, nothing to see here.
