This won't be a surprise for those previously seasoned QF ADL-SIN travelers. Incredibly dumb decision by QF.

Dubai-based airline Emirates says it couldn’t be happier with the first six months of its Adelaide operations, with passenger loads running almost a third above budget.
Bookings for the period July to September are already at 86 per cent capacity compared to a budgeted 66 per cent.

I'm sure that once Mr Joyce returns from cashing his revenue-sharing cheque he'll have time to talk to you about his "incredibly dumb decision."

Just remember Emirates has a consistent daily service compared to Qantas's previous offering.

Amazing how many airline experts here know so much better yet somehow they are not running airlines.

That's funny. Just yesterday someone who flew Emirates two weeks ago said she thought the daily service would stop as her flight was less than half full.

Anecdote warning

I recently did Adelaide Dubai return. First leg: Y almost full, J almost full, not many in F.
return: Y almost full, J just over half full, few if any in F

end of anecdote warning

What? There's F from ADL - DXB? Why has nobody told me?

If i didn't live in ADL and have to put up with 10 across to fly to Europe, then i would probably buy the line that it was a brilliant decision by QF.
They have lost a significant amount of regard here locally by abandoning INT travellers here in SA. I accept that revenue share may match the previous ADL-SIN revenue but the loss of QFi presence in ADL has got to have an effect somewhere.

Yes, on MAS's balance sheet as far as my bookings go.

Can anyone explain why ADL - LHR return on EK in F is cheaper than ADL - DXB return on EK in F? Bizarre. And J return is only slightly cheaper ADL - DXB than ADL - LHR, about $800 cheaper.

Surpringly, it's more common than not for fares to/from major hubs to be more expensive than fares which transit that hub. For the most part, it's due to competition. On the ADL-LHR route you have MH, SQ, CX and EK/QF (and maybe others). On the ADL-DXB route you only have EK/QF, unless you want to fly indirect.

Not entirely in line with this thread, but with respect to EK picking up with QF left of, CX has added an extra daily HKG-LHR (QF dumped HKG-LHR) and SQ has gone to four daily ex-PER (QF dumped their second daily PER-SIN).

I would say the extra CX flight is to compensate NZ dropping HKG-LHR also, and putting their code on CX

Interesting to know, thanks. My next OW trip into PER will be either MH via KUL or CX via HKG then!

Full doesn't necessarily mean it makes money - any airline can fill a plane with passengers. But whether they fill them enough to cover costs and make money is another issue.
