With the new Qantas-Emirates partnership it might be time for Emirates to reconsider its no guesting for Skywards Gold passengers policy in it's lounges.

Qantas allows guesting and to maintain that in the partnership may end up meaning that Qantas passengers can take multiple guests into Emirates lounges dependant on their status. Gold Qantas members can take a guest who is travelling with them regardless of status or travel class.

Also I understand that this no guesting for Gold Skywards rule of Emirates' was implemented to reduce congestion in the Dubai lounge (only as a temporary measure whilst they build the new concourse). However it was for some reason implemented across the board in all other lounges around the world as well...

Has anyone heard if this has been commented on by Emirates in the continuing media statements and public comments?

I agree it would be great to allow guesting. I flew them a few weeks ago and tried to get one of my mates into the lounge but was refused (I was flying Y). Having said that, the line up for the showers in Dubai was massive (took an hour) and the lounge was packed - so it would be even busier - but would be a great enhancement. Maybe when the new A380 terminal is done it will be better.

Until the new terminals open Dubai, can't see it happening.
Also very much doubt that QF cardholders will have better access.

And whilst the EK arrangement is very significant for QF and QFF'ers how significant is it for EK? I doubt that it is significant enough, such that it would start changing a whole stack of its rules? (Extra tier aside, which has been rumoured for several years). If anything QFF'ers will place additional burden on EK lounges, so means less likely to change.

I think of AKL which will have 2 A380's to SYD and MEL plus a 777 to BNE all at roughly the same time.

There was no problem a couple of weeks ago when I took the 777 Back to BNE. Still plenty of seats

I understand where you are coming from. And I don't particularily mind if lounge access in Dubai is restricted whilst they build the new A380 concourse. But there is no reason to restrict the other lounges around the world. Some airports would only one a few flights a day. Also it has been said publically that when a discrepancy exists between a Qantas perk and an Emirates perk, the more generous one would be adopted. And a Qantas gold can bring a guest into the lounge, that is putting to one side for a moment the flood of people who a WP, WP1 or CL could invite into the lounges.

Will the new A380 concourse be finished by April? I remember reading somewhere that it will be, but cannot find the link now!
