Eligible sectors

Hmm

Those T&Cs look a little out of date, but even when updated they seem to exclude reward flights. I guess the promo changes things.

The biggest problem here is getting a definitive answer. I read the T&C's prior to determining that I needed 3 paid sectors to qualify Platinum. The reference to earning SC's (limited time offer) on redemptions appears to be exclusive of earning both points and sectors.

Do I dare phone for clarification?

Do I dare phone for clarification?

Phone who? You just have to look at the 241 (mis)information that has been given to many of us by the status call centre. The VR staff don't even know the answers and they are giving conflicting advice, so even if you get an answer, will it be actually correct?

Phone them, go on .... I dare you :D

Ok, so I phoned them. Not because you dared me though. I certainly didn't want to ruin anyones party!

I dialled the appropriate number and was put on hold without speaking to anyone for about 27 minutes. I eventually spoke to Armon. I asked the question regarding the current points redemption promotion which allows SC's and asked whether those flights were counted as eligible sectors. I explained that based on the website T&C's which states that redemption flight segments are not counted toward eligible sectors, I had booked revenue flights today to meet the criteria to achieve Platinum status, given that my already booked flights will total over the 1000 SC mark, but that I will not qualify on the eligible sector requirement. I cited the website T&C's for redemption seats and asked for clarification of the eligible sector status on the current promotion. He put me on hold and then came back referring to a list of FAQ's regarding the promotion and cited that, for the period of the promotion, flight segments during this promotion are also counted as eligible sectors.

I asked where on the website I could find that information, and he stated that he does not believe it is shown there.

I have received a credit shell for my bookings today (minus the $7.70 booking fee, which I think should have been credited, but I can't be bothered following it up) and have confirmation that during the promotional period of the SC's on redemption flights, they also count toward eligible sectors. This is what I was told, but of course YMMV.

Good outcome in the nick of time thanks to serfty posting his experience.

Nice of them to make the FAQs available to everyone.......not!

Well done for braving the call centre - not many of us are keen to do so again at the moment!

The information you've been given certainly seems to be quite clear that these redemption flights DO count as eligible sectors during the promo period. It's a concern though that it's not shown in writing anywhere on the website, which means it can come down to a "he said, she said" situation later on. The T&Cs for this promo only consist of a single paragraph - how hard would it be for Virgin to add something like "eligible flights booked and flown during the promotion period will also count as eligible sectors". Maybe they rather everyone assume the flights don't count, so then they will book revenue flights as well (as you did)?

Agree. I asked several times where I could find that information on the website. We went through page by page on the website together and he stated he was at a loss as to why the information was not there. He referred several times to a list of FAQ's regarding this promotion, which apparently totals 7 items, and quoted me at least twice the reference that the flights count as eligible sectors.

I am really happy with the outcome and thank swanning_it and Serfty for their input and hope other members can benefit also.

I was definitely not keen on calling them given the amount of time I "wasted" on my last 3 bookings, hence my statement "dare I call them?".

And yes, I wonder how many people are booking revenue flights to cover the flight sector requirements, referring to the T&C's on the website :-|
