Since people apparently found my list of eateries & bars in Honkers helpful, I'll post a few of our favourite spots that we visited over Easter weekend in Singapore (en-route to Chiang Mai).
The trouble with Singapore, much like Hong Kong, is its 56 million throughly on fleek restaurants and coughtail bars, and you never quite know how to narrow your list of 'must dos' down without major FOMO. We always end up with a crazily ambitious list of 25 bars we mean to hit over a 2-3 night stay; somehow I don't think we ever get close to the whole list - but always have a super fun time regardless. It's amazing how massive the city's foodie and craft coughtail scenes have grown over the years; from the Singabore I'd simply transit through to somewhere I simply must stop for a decadent few days enroute somewhere . Many a times it's even been a candidate for a long weekend break.
As always, the trip starts with an inflight Singapore Sling served up by our fabulous Singapore Girls (and Boys)... We got to try the 2013 77W J product for the first time on SQ and found it a little difficult to find a naturally comfy spot - far prefer the 2006 J product on the A380 we got for our return.
You never really have to leave Chinatown when you're in Singapore (specifically Keong Saik Road, Amoy St and their vicinities). Following the demise of my old fave the New Majestic, I had to look for something equally cool and the Sofitel So Singapore offers a similarly funky and fun stay whilst being in close proximity to the bars & foodie spots of Chinatown. Way better located than the W at Sentosa, it goes without saying - much as the W always has a huge space in my heart.
First cab off the rank on Amoy St, as it's just next door to our dinner venue on the first night is an old fave of mine - Spiffy Dapper. Like all good speakeasies, it's not worth visiting unless you have to apply some effort in finding it like diving behind a dumpster and shovelling up 6 feet of dirt to find any semblance of an entry to a bar... this place is located up a dingy and dark stairwell in what could pass as a condemned building - but it's so worth it! My #partymum certainly enjoyed it.
If you're a fan of Scout (and who isn't?!) in Sydney or Hackney, you'll definitely enjoy Native, my all time favourite in Singapore to date. Similarly fabulous hyper-local approach to coughtails.
