I'm planning a few trips in the future that I'll probably take with Singapore Airlines. However I'm trying to work out which fare codes are classed as "Discount Economy" and "Full Fare Economy" for the purposes of earning status credits on Velocity. I've looked around the Velocity website but can't seem to find anything, I feel like there should be an obvious chart that I'm missing or something, but the closest I can find is the chart showing how many miles I'll earn, which only has a single "Economy" section, no discount and full fare.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Interesting table. All EY and SQ fare buckets would seem to be full econ or nothing.

That's great! Where did you find it?

Thanks for that. I see now that you can get there by clicking on the titles "Discount Economy" and "Full-fare Economy" on the SC earning tables. Didn't even realise those were links, they look like they're just titles.

Thanks for all your help guys. Renewal of Gold and onwards to Platinum, here I come. :p

SQ is quite 'notorious' for this, and seems no exception with the VA alliance.

That is, often their sales buckets ("Sweet Deals" etc.) are too low to earn anything at all (e.g. typical are N fares). However, the first buckets that do earn ("Flexi Saver") do so at the 100% rate (equiv. full fare economy). This is consistent across many of the Star Alliance FFPs, whose airlines frequently use mileage as the status counting instrument rather than status credits. (An interesting exception is NZ Airpoints, which have a "status credit" like status instrument (based on continental zones), but for SQ flights all Economy buckets are credited with Discount Economy level status points).

Before the VA alliance came along, I bought an SQ fare at the Flexi Saver level which ticketed into buckets H and M. The Deals buckets at N (non-earning types) were only marginally cheaper than what I booked which is why I decided to jump up.

little bit OT, but, need to do a Singapore/HK trip ex MEL - did on SingAir last year, before they had Velocity.

What's the best way to book so I get SC on Singapore Air. The VA website only goes to Sing not HK and uses Etihad.

I guess you could always use the SQ website. You will just need to check the fare basis when you book to make sure it is an earning fare (the fare bucket / booking code is the first letter of the fare basis).

In the unlikely event that the SQ site won't allow you to put your VA number on, you can arrange it at the airport (the airport people - even contractors - should be smart enough to process this for you).

I suppose until VA put on the codeshares on SQ flights, you won't be able to use the VA website to book them. What's the deal on this people? (New topic, perhaps)

geez, ok. Thought all SQ earned at full econ. Never realised there would be tickets where there is no earn for velocity.

I've got a LAX - NRT, KIX KUL flight in Oct and I can't work out what the fare code is for it.

There's not details on my e ticket at all. I find SQ are the most difficult in terms of working out the fare bucket you've got.

When I do a dummy booking on a website is shows QLPO - not sure i that earns SC and points with velocity or not???

I booked the flexi saver fare - not the cheapest Y fare. It earns miles compared the the chepaer fare that didn't, but if you wanted to be able to upgrade the fare with miles you had to pay extra for a flexi fare

Did a bit of googling and can see that if you click on See the fare conditions of your selection you get the booking class.

The fare I've booked is in W class so gets full economy - SQ flexi save

If I'd chosen the cheaper sweet deal it was W class - and prob doesn't earn any points.

So I think it's a reasonable assumption that if the Y fare you book earns SQ miles it will also earn Velocity SC and miles.

This info has certainly changed my ideas for SC run in USA in Oct. Delta is looking like a better option. Will be well in to gold territory with a chance of making plat. Just realised Velocity has similar restrictions as to QF with the number of flights you have to do on DJ / VA metal to get status. Might have to have a couple of short holidays in Australia so i cna qualify for gold.

Decisions decisions

Another question along the same lines:

Does SC earning on SQ count for each leg of a journey or is it calculated on the entire journey?

E.g. for HKG-SIN-SYD in Y would this attract 50SC or 30SC?

I asked a similar question in another thread and was told for long haul international, it's calculated per sector. So in your case, it will be 50SC :D

First time poster boy...

Sooo I'm worried now that after booking MEL - SIN - USM for my honeymoon on SQ with the outgoing on a flexi saver and return on a super deal in May. I've read that Krisflyer can now earn 10% points on miles on super deal but what is it for Velocity? Sooo my dilemma is - I can't find what fare code my flight is now, no matter where I look on manage bookings. I try doing a dummy booking and looking at the fare conditions but the ol' internal error 500 comes up all the time.

And with the mix of fares you get the most restrictive fare - I feel like I gonna get dudded for SC's and points am I... Is this true??

It should say somewhere on your eticket document, what the booking code is.

Unfortunately not...

Does state Endorsement/Restrictions - VALID SQ/MI ONLY/NON REFNONCH NG (No refund no change)...

Apart from that nothing on the e-ticket, even the fine print I have read at least three times...

My guess is that you will get SCs on the MEL-SIN sector as it's on flexi saver, but not SIN-USM as it's operated by Silk Air.

I read that most Sweet Deal tickets are either N or Q fares, which do not earn Velocity SCs. Best bet would be to give SQ a call and ask them to tell you what fare types you've booked.

But if it's "y" class ticket (full economy) it should be 100 SCs.
Unless it's classed as discount economy, then it'll be 50 SCs. Does your ticket tell you what class it is?

These are the conditions I can see or this ticket booked as a flex saver dummy booking:

Am about to book two returns on SQ to Johannesburg and the SC's from my girlfriends pooled to mine, plus mine, will get me platinum :)

Cheapest fare is $1829 but thats Super Deals - and says earn at 10% on KrisFlyer

My question is - will this also earn SC through Virgin? Am not fussed about sacrificing miles, but do need the SC's - Flexi Saver flight is $2062 so across both flights thats an extra $466 which I don't want to pay unless I have to

I calculate that the flight will get us 140 SC each (80 from SYD to SIN and 60 from SIN to JHB). Alternatively, is there any other flight option with a diff airline which could net me the 280 SC's?
