Hi Folks

I have a simple question...Can I earn Krisflyer elite miles (i.e. similar to Velocity status credits) when I quote my Krisflyer number on Virgin Australia flights?

I do a lot of flying with VA domestically, currently have Gold Status with them, but would prefer to have gold with SQ (and enjoy all the benefits with other star alliance airlines)

According to Singapore Air (my bolding): Elite miles are the actual miles flown, plus any applicable class bonuses earned. When flying on Singapore Airlines or SilkAir, class bonuses awarded are based on 100%, 125%, 150% and 100% of the actual distance travelled in Economy Class, Business Class, First Class and the Singapore Airlines Suites respectively. In the Suites, 150% of the actual miles flown will be earned in F or P booking class. On partner airlines, the Elite miles earned may differ. Promotional and tier bonus miles earned do not count towards Elite membership. No Elite miles are awarded for booking classes not eligible for earning of miles.

I did find an old article from AUSBT advising this could not be done - but was hoping that due to the recent changes and improvements, this might now be possible?

My understanding is that YES you can, but ONLY on an Singapore Airlines international itinerary to Australia with domestic legs on VA flights with an SQ flight number.

So being an Aussie just booking CBR-SYD on VA will NOT get you Elite Miles, just Award Miles.
However, fling CBR-SYD-SIN-SYD-CBR would get you Elite Miles on the VA CBR-SYD sectors provided you were booked on an SQ codeshare flight number.

Does that make sense?

Thanks Vantage.

Yeah that make sense and sounds quite reasonable I suppose. I knew it was a bit of a long shot - looks like I'll be ensuring that I continue to plug my Velocity number in when I fly domestically to get VFF points and status, as oppose to just Award miles with SQ.
