Driving from Berlin to Switzerland (possibly Basle)

Hi.

I'm in the early stages of planning my first Europe trip and am starting to put some structure into it. I am thinking of renting a car when we finish in Berlin and driving. I want to see Basel and maybe castles and dad has mentioned Interlaarken as a place to see. The girlfriend wants some scenic mountains, countryside etc. We will be there in mid June 2013, and driving from the 16th. I would prefer to spend the nights anywhere there is a hilton if possible, and need to be somewhere where I can catch a oneworld flight to London on the 19th or possibly the 20th.

I am thinking about renting through Sixt, I am waiting on a company rep to get back to me with regard to my HHonors membership and discounts but was wondering if anyone has any particular advice or suggestions. I am looking at a higher end rental like the BMW 7 series that Sixt offer.

Anyone done the driving tour or have advice on the rental? I have no idea where I should plan to spend the nights but would prefer to have it prebooked.

It's only a small tip, but to drive on motorways in Switzerland you will need a vignette sticker: National road tax and motorway tax (CHF 40.-)
If you are lucky your hire car may already have one.

I have done a bit of driving in Germany, but never across the border into Switzerland. My main tip for driving in Germany would be to never underestimate the closing speed of vehicles coming up behind you before you pull out, nor your closing speed on slower moving vehicles.

car parking can be difficult and expensive in Switz, my swiss friends have always advised me to take trains for that reason ( or perhaps they are worried about my driving lol )

You already found the cheapest of the bigger rental companies, I've had very good experiences with Sixt going in and out of Germany. Driving in Germany is usually good fun for someone who's not used to it and definitely worth renting a fast car for
