Alaska Airlines is running a promo where you can earn double Mileage Plan miles on Qantas trans-Pacific flights. This offer could be interesting to some people that don't want/need Qantas status credits, as Mileage Plan miles are quite valuable.
You have to register on the Alaskan website, book by 30 April and travel between 1 May and 6 December this year. The booking can be on AS or QF flight numbers.
Most Qantas economy fare classes (except for a couple of the deep discount sale buckets) normally earn 100% of actual miles flown with Mileage Plan. Premium economy earns 110%, Business 125% (+100% additional bonus) and First class 150% (+200% additional bonus). I believe the offer is only for double base miles, not including the premium cabin bonuses.
As an example, you'd earn 31,684 Alaskan miles on a round-trip MEL-LAX ticket with this promotion. (It would cost around $1,200 just to buy that many miles from Mileage Plan at full price.) And the premium cabin earn would be really quite substantial.
