Seems as though come 01 May, flexis will not be as flexible as they have been. I have had a few of my flights in May involuntarily changed, and was advised that if I need to change any of my flexibles and do so after 01May, they may be subject to additional collection. Previously, if I was able to get the same booking class it was a simple revalidation, which will still be the case as long as there is no movement of the base fare, increase or decrease, of more than 99 cents!

I looked into it - and it appears here - http://www.qantas.com.au/agents/dyn/qf/policies/DOMTKTReissuePolicy.pdf

I guess a good example, is the one in the link above. If you had purchased a MELPER LFLEX and needed to change, L class was available, however in the interim L class had decreased by more than 99cents - you would need to then upgrade to M class (as you need to re-issue to the same or higher fare level)

EXAMPLE 1

OLD TICKET
MELPER LFLEX AUD467.11 Change
TOTAL AUD467.11

NEW TICKET
MELPER LFLEX AUD452.64 Current Fare LFLEX has decreased.
LFLEX Fare has an ‘equal/higher fare’ requirement.
MELPER MFLEX AUD548.93 Current Fare MFLEX is equal/higher than
AUD467.11
TOTAL AUD548.93 Total Base Fare is now higher than AUD467.11

ADCOL AUD 81.45

Very unlikely that fares would decrease... especially as you get closer to flight date
but a very weird requirement that you need to up the class if the fare has fallen

Couldn't a case be made for cancelling the original ticket and having it re-issued?

What about with sale fares? Do they introduce a new class of fare and then call it by it's common name (eg Red-e-deal / flexi saver / fulli flexible) or do they actually reduce the price on the individual fare buckets?

From what I understand, with sale fares, and their change fees/ additional collection, will not change - it will just be the need to pay extra if there is more than a 99 cent movement if you need to change your flexi ticket. Our flexis for next month were purchased in December last year, if the same class is available, it was just a simple revalidation - same ticket number - next month - if there has been a change in pricing of more or less than 99 cents - we need to re-issue and pay the additional collection.
