One of the main platinum benefits I looked forward to was the economy X seats on domestic and short haul flights. Being a tall guy, any extra leg room always comes in handy.

Well after my first 4 flights since being platinum I was able to get economy X on each flight. Twice in an aisle seat (row 4) and twice in a window seat (row 5) but these flights have all been booked pretty close to the day of travel so there was nothing available in row 3. On both flights where I was in row 5 it was the only seat showing as available in economy X.

Are all the seats in economy X available on a first come first serve basis for all platinums? I am assuming that the earlier you book your flight and select your seat the better your chance of getting an aisle, or the highly coveted row 3 haha. Or can they block out certain seats for staff or certain pax etc?

I did notice a couple of little annoying things on 2 of the flights.

Firstly on 1 flight, one of the attendants came with some bottles of water and was offering them to all the pax in row 3 just after boarding. After which she still had some bottles left over but instead of offering them to anyone else she just returned to the business class section lol. Is this a normal practice, it seemed quite strange to me. Maybe she intended on giving them all out but then had to rush back or something. Or maybe I'm just over thinking it lol

On another flight (involving row 3 again haha) one of the attendants spent the last half of the flight just talking and laughing with a single passenger. It was clear they were friends or maybe even that the passenger was a virgin staff member although not in uniform. Anyway just looked very unprofessional to me

@Harthagan yes Y+ is available free to all WP at the time of booking and I think to any one else who is willing to pay to select Y+.

For people in the know, and if they are willing to pay $29/$39/$49/$59/ for an economyx seat on VA, that means then these seats are taken.
So, the earlier you book, of course, the better chance you will have at getting row 3.
I have gotten (bought) row 3 on the 737 on VAd in the past, ...
Another time, had bought row 3, then the plane got changed to a 320, no ecomomyx except over wing, which I am not keen on, as I get "that lecture", then then plane got changed to an F100, so I just changed seats, didn't want over wing either, ADL - PER $59 or was it $69 down the loo, they said I could claim it back, but I though it was a pain in the back, so din't.
Who knows with the current financials, what will happen, will they take away economyx and cram seats back, or put more 320s without economyx except over wings and you get that lecture.
