Hi esteemed frequent flyers,

I have a QF business award ticket booked as an Any Seat Award prior to the cutoff last year HKG-MEL-SYD-DFW. I paid a mixture of points and cash.
I called earlier today to try defer the last leg of the trip (previously a continuous one-way journey) so effectively it becomes a stopover in SYD.
Nothing available in business to SYD-DFW, but 1st for SYD-LAX is available.
Points difference quoted is 88k + change fee.

Does that seem right?
SYD-LAX in 1st is 144k pts++
SYD-LAX in business is 96k pts++
SYD-DFW in 1st is 168k pts++
SYD-DFW in business is 112k pts++

So shouldn't I just be up for a smaller difference? Like 144k-112k =>32k pts

Am I being slugged somewhere?

Would I still accrue the SCs or would I now lose them completely?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The points costs you have set out are for classic awards, not any seat awards. 88,000 to change an ASA sounds normal to me. You should still get the SCs.

If that's what you are being quoted. It's is an ASA change and not revering to a classic award? I would confirm that but you can pay a million on some sectors so not that bad you can get F availability

If you decide to go aheads with the change, make a note of the time of the call, the agent, and specifically check that points and SCs are still earned on that leg after the change. All for the tape!
