Does anyone here actually collect amenities kits as a hobby?

Hi there all,

I do a fair bit of travel, as I am working in South America but have home base in Australia. Mainly travel J. So I end up with quite a few amenities kits. (I don't think I have purchased tooth paste in 5 years!!)

Anyway, I have saturated my family with these kits - the contents are not so valuable, but the little bags are always useful - from pencil cases to hard-drive storage.

But I have a few left over. And keep getting more. I am not into donating them to "worthy causes" - to me to give a cheap toothbrush is not really true charity - I donate other things for that. And am time-poor so fiddling around addressing and sending packages to people is also not my cup of tea. Sorry, but that is my reality. But it occurred to me that there maybe members in this forum who genuinely COLLECT such items. IE they place a worth on them higher than just the simple contents they hold.

And conjointly to that I also feel a debt to the greater AFF community for the value I have gained from this forum. So I want to give something, even if it is small, back to this community.

The main kits I get are Avianca (coughpy contents but IMHO a fantastically useful "Tumi" case), Latam (slightly better contents and a reasonable case), and Qantas (colourful cases). I tend not to take the Qantas PJ's (too bulky for my carryon) but could do so for the right person. And neither Latam nor Avianca give PJ's.

If there are members on AFF that would truly value one of these items, send me a PM. Would require that they send me a postage-paid-whatever envelope so all I have to do is plop them in and send. And I give no guarantees as to how soon I can do this. I require no minimum posts, but preference will be given to time that they have been an AFF member.

I am a super-frequent flyer now, but I was not always that. I know that a few years ago a J amenities kit would have bowled me over :) So that is who I am targeting - people who either are true "collectors", or enthusiasts that currently don't get to fly international in J. Someone who gets value that makes the effort on my part worthwhile :)

I get a few kits each month, so this is not a one-off bulk thing. If you are keen, send me a PM and telling me your situation, and I will try to help :)

I like to give these kits (and other things) away as prizes on my wine tours so am always grateful to members who donate these to "me". I'm sure the members who win them are equally grateful.

Im going to address, "to me to give a cheap toothbrush is not really true charity"

Donating your hotel, airline toiletries frees up much needed funds for Shelters AND it gives the person using the donated item dignity. A shampoo, soap and toothbrush means a lot, when you dont have anything.

Im a big donator to Every Little Bit Helps. They have lots of collection points interstate or you can send to me (Ill send you a pre addressed express parcel) and I will forward them on (Ive got my own bag of goodies to send).

Very generous of you.

I just sent an enquiry as to where I can drop off in ADL as I have quite a few hotel goodies. Thanks for the tip @Denali

Buzz - I have some details of a women's shelter that I take things too. I can PM details but not sure if you'd be able to get into the office as a male. Otherwise Hutt St Centre down near South Terrace might be interested.

Send me the details, I don't need to go past the front door. If that doesn't work I have another option.

I love the idea behind Every Little Bit Helps and plan to send them a package in the next week - it certainly beats trying to cram more kits into my laundry / bathroom cabinets!

That said, if anyone here knows of any local Brisbane charities or shelters that could use similar donations, feel free to point me towards them. :)

And Melbourne contacts would be appreciated, too, please.

I have a few lying around taking up space. Am in country Victoria, but travel to Melbourne regularly.

Mostly QF, LATAM.

So today I had two large bags of small shampoos, soaps, toothpastes and toothbrush sets, amenity bags etc and took them to the women's shelter in Adelaide that I've been taking them to for ages and they wouldn't take the small samples - they said women are there for a few days at a time and they want large containers. I ended up taking them to the shelter on Hutt St who were very grateful - @Pushka and @Buzzard - FYI

There is an Adelaide drop off for Home so I might contact them next time or just take them to Hutt St

I guess storage of small items is an issue but it is a pity they wouldn’t take them.

I was just really peeved with her attitude as well whereas Hutt St were so grateful - ah well - next time I know where to go
