Do Delta recognise Velocity? (and bonus question, what is the LA leg like?)

Hi all,

I just hit Platinum and have a trip coming up at the end of March to Fort Lauderdale connecting with VX

Just found that due to VA changing when the plane leaves Sydney I'm left with the option of getting a much later VX flight, flying to Brisbane and then LAX or alternatively flying with Delta out of Sydney.

I'm leaning towards the Brisbane flight but not sure if I really want to do the extra flight.

Do Delta recognise Platinum (I guess for things such as check in and boarding etc) or am I better off just sticking with VA who I have flown to LAX many times and had no problem with?

Thanks for any feedback in advance

I would take VA international over DL international any day of the week. The DL flight will fell like flying in a 1979 Ford Capri with wings on it.

On the ground Delta does not recognise Velocity Platinum for anything more than lounge access.

It will NOT (on its own, i.e. when flying Economy) get you "Sky Priority" access to queues at check-in or boarding, not will it give you additional checked luggage benefits - something that is extremely lacking in Velocity's relationship with Delta when compared to QFF's with American.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You will always get the best service from the program you have status with, so I'd choose Virgin Australia over Delta if at all possible.

Notably OneWorld is a bigger alliance though. I haven't looked at Skyteam, which Delta is, but if they were both members of Star Alliance it would include what you've mentioned I believe.

One thing about the priority access queues - I ask which is worse - to queue for 20 mins to check in and 5 mins to board, because of lack of priority check-in/boarding or to have priority access and have to take a whole extra flight to get from A to B?

Thanks, I guess it makes my decision a fairly straight forward one. VA all the way it is

edit: Just saw the post above.

It's a good point, I guess it is also the quality of service/seating in flight. I have worked out the overall time spent by me compared to before will be closer than I thought.

I mean as I am flying a domestic flight I would probably only need to be there in time to check my bags.

Flight at 9 so check in 8.15am versus original VA flight of 11.45am where I would probably arrive 2.5 hours earlier, say 9.15 if I was going out of Sydney. In that regard I will probably lose an hour plus have to fly an extra leg.

OOps, quite right, my rant was about travelling Delta as a whole, rather than on their specific J.V. route across the Pacific, on which recognition is quite a bit more enhanced between the two airlines' programs.
