I've always had good experiences with DL. What are your experiences with them LAX-SYD in economy as a VA Plat?

I'm taking my family on the next trip and would like to make it a nice experience for them. Do DL offer better access to bulkhead rows and does the 50% discount on economy plus still apply?

I always travel in economy so I'm not interested in PE or Business class experiences. I would really appreciate any thoughts whether it's worth a couple hundred more dollars per person to stay on VA.

Personally I try to avoid delta long haul. Older planes and seats, old, grumpy FA's, worse food (or so I recall.. Perhaps my memory is just biased against DL because of my overall experience). I have flown them twice on this long haul leg and always now actively check that my long haul is operated by VA. I had no status at that stage but I don't imagine this would have made my experience any better. My experience was not bad per se....Everything just felt old and tired to me, YMMV!

All I can really say is that the DL sky club in LAX is not a patch on the new VA Star Alliance lounge. For almost that reason alone I would go VA over DL. Makes a big difference, especially if you have a long layover in LAX from a domestic connection. VA plat will also have access to 'first class' section of star alliance lounge.

That's true. The first class lounge is a nice quiet spot, but I can only bring one guest one anyway. Of course TBIT airside is pretty nice too.

Entertainment system is OK. Seats are average. Flight attendants realise the product is a bit embarassing. You can't get a cup of green or peppermint tea and there isn't a water dispenser. The meal is tiny. The lounge is packed to the brim and wifi unuseable.
