A few weeks ago I took a JQi operated flight from SYD-MEL.

The flight ended up departing over 4 hours late. In the end, it was almost not worthwhile taking the flight.

My question is... what happens if I decide I no longer want to take the flight? Being in the departure area of the international terminal must make the matter a little tricky.

Anyone know?

I did it for a SYD-CNS flight, departing from the internation terminal. The delays meant I missed the family lunch (the reason for going) so I didn't want to fly.

The QP manager arranged for me to be removed from the flight, then walk to be outbound immigration to get approval and then to inbound immigration. The inbound immigration duty manager wrote a code word on a new inbound card, which the inspection officers collected and said the code word - I was out of there.

I later called Qantas and they re-scheduled the flight without penalty.

I got to keep the original boarding pass with 'D' sticker. :)

This thread was started by a member who was thinking of buying a fully refundable ticket to gain access to the Sydney F-Lounge. He'd have been facing an immigration issue too. Perhaps there's answer in this.

What can they do? Some people have second thoughts, some suffer panic attacks, some feel sick, some decide that the delay in flight no longer suits them.

This happens at domestic terminals all the time why would it be different from an international terminal? No one can force you to board a flight you no longer feel comfortable boarding....

It seems Skoogle has the answer with a classic 'been there and done that' :!:

Done that as well. Was on a SYD - WLG flight and in the F lounge when I received a call from the office that things had changed and they wanted me in MEL the next day and not WLG. WLG could wait till the following day.

Went to the QF desk and they very nicely changed the ticket to a SYD - MEL - WLG ticket and then I had to wait till a person came who could escort me through the airport to the inbound customs area. Having no checked luggage helped as it meant that QF did not have to go looking for luggage to take off a flight.
