Darwin late March- bad time of year to go?

Have nothing to do for easter this year (24-28 March) so looking at any options to get away. Was surprised to see hotels in darwin are extremely cheap for easter (like 4 stars under $100 a night cheap). Also surprised to see award seats available each day (as most other destinations have no availability). Hire cars also cheap.

Thought this sounded too good to be true so looked at the darwin climate. Realise it's the end of the wet season but that April gets significantly less rain than Jan - March and easter is very late in march.

Is it still a bad time to go? The odd hour long dumping of rain doesn't bother me provided there's some sunshine in betweeen- ive been in cairns in late March before and thought the weather was pretty good.

Is there anything else I'm missing? Seems too good to be true?

You'll be fine. Will still see late afternoon storms/rain. Some outdoor things to see will still be closed like Mindil beach markets will still be closed.
If youre into fishing, it not a bad time heading towards the end of the wet season and run off.

On the other side of the coin, I think 24 hours is no where near enough time to see and enjoy Darwin

Humidity may be more problematic than rainfall and a lot of areas may be inaccessible because of water levels even if you hire a 4WD. Insects (mosquitoes) could be prolific at the end of the wet too.
We originally looked at March - April but decided on August because of those factors. First time to DRW though so I'm not speaking from experience.

A bit OT but I did notice hotel prices were more than twice as much in August compared to March at a lot of places. Anyone know if they are likely to fall if I hold off booking for a while?

Edit: Scratch the bit about insects - NT Health says biting midges and mosquitoes are not a problem in March

I'm there mid April and my +1 is tossing up whether to go or not. I guess it will largely depend on how wet the wet is and how late the wet extends for? Any informed comment on mossies, mud, accessibility (National parks) for mid April in general?
