Brisbane - Hong Kong - J/Y+ Award Options

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone knows if CX102/CX103 is still the old product (old regional seats, not suites). Would love to try the suite seats.

EDIT: Didn't realise CX102/CX103 stop via CNS. So CX may not be that viable

Trying to get an award flight but QF don't have any seats available for the dates I want (next month), and maybe even considering BNE-SYD-HKG-SYD-BNE to get J or Y+

Anyone got any other suggestions for BNE-HKG business or Y+ ?

Trying to treat my Mum to her first J/Y+ experience

There is CX102/103 and CX156/157. The first leaves and arrives in the morning, the latter the evening. It's not bad leaving at night, but not arriving at night as there's no train services at such a time.

As far as I know it's all new product by now.

Thanks Sam. From reading, don't think BNE is confirmed as the new product ...

Anyone have some suggestions for my dillemma? Not having tried CX J, I have tried QF J. Not sure what I'll do yet ....

All CX A330 services to Australia are now consistently the new herringbone J seating long-haul product.

While the CX flight stops in CNS on some days (not all days) its not the end of the world. For the daytime northbound flight it actually breaks it up a little. The time on the ground in CNS is short and there is no security screening to be passed in CNS for transit passengers. You just leave the aircraft and make sure you turn right and up the ramp directly into the departures area.

The old QF lounge is not the CX Reef Lounge. When I was there at the end of August there was no alcohol available in the lounge as their licence application had not yet been completed. But you are there for less than 30 mins in the lounge and they did have snacks, soft drinks and tea/coffee etc.

So given that QF does not operate BNE-HKG daily, if you want to travel on the non-QF days, then the CX flight, even via CNS, is not a bad option. Even with the CNS stop, the arrival into HKG is still a reasonable time (around 8pm).

I would rather take a brief same-aircraft stop in CNS than a terminal transit in SYD or MEL when there is no non-stop option.

Thanks NM, took your advice, and have done some more fishing on the CX site, and found out :

Direct flights
BNE-HKG Sun, Mon, Tue
HKG - BNE Tue, Thur, Fri

So, I have booked it in J class. Hope she likes it, lucky lady!!

It was 130,000 points plus 2,500 booking fee  plus $220 AUD in taxes

Now have to work out how to put in a window request for Mum. As a QF NB I don't think she will get any priority :( Anyone have any ideas please?

And also, which lounges can she use in BNE and HKG as a J pax?

In BNE she can use the QP.

In HKG she can use the Wing or the Pier (both CX lounges and by far the best there). Her flight will most likely leave from a far gate, so the Pier would be the one to go to. It's quite long and has a nice noodle bar in it.

Rang QF, they put in the seat request for me. Most of the back cabin seats (21-25) were blocked, so got 18A on both directions.

Is there anything special I should tell Mum that she can experience? I know she doesn't drink that much, so won't really get to take advantage of good wine:?: Hope she will enjoy it though. I think it's a nice treat, I'm jealous :D

You can call CX Reservations phone number or send them an email and make the request.

In BNE CX use the Qantas lounge. In CNS they use their own Reef Lounge (old Qantas Club lounge). In HKG she can use either CX or QF lounges. Just needs to show the J boarding pass for entry.

Thanks NM. Not having been to either lounges, which would you recommend for a first timer to enjoy?

CX Lounges are better than QF in Hong Kong. So either The Wing or The Pier (the two CX lounges at HKG) depending on which is closest to the departure gate.

Any difference in quality, food, features between the two lounges?

It's CX's home airport. The lounge is essentially their flagship. It's big, has the best features and the best food and beverage offerings.

Why you'd bother with the QF lounge when it's not their home port, is smaller by a large margin and has less food and beverage options I don't know. :p

Nah meant the Pier and Wing. I wouldn't go to QF lounge in HKG :)

Ahh okay lol.

Umm. The main consideration is where the flight is leaving from, as it's a long walk between the two if you go to the lounge not nearest your gate.

The Wing. Located right next to immigration, but generally the gates outside are long-haul to Europe.

The Pier. Located at the far end of the airport, normally near a BNE bound flight.

Not really. The difference is location and ambience. The Wing is located on the mezzanine area just to the left of immigration/security opposite gate 2 and has an open, airy feel to it. The Pier is located down an escalator from the departures level near gate 65 (actually located on arrivals level, but isolated from arrivals passageways) and is more intimate and secluded. I just use the one that is closest to my departure gate.

I do sometimes visit the QF FLounge at HKG for a few reasons:
  • if I have already eaten and showered at The Wing and want a change of scenery
  • if I want to use the self-serve bar and snacks like Pringles rather than wait for the waiter service
  • if I want a different selection of ice cream

I would say a few very good reasons. Pringles and ice cream are vey important to any lounge.

Personally i would suggest as a first timer I would get to the airport nice and early and visit both lounges. Go straight to the Wing when you get to the airport to orient oneself, de-stress after the journey there (if done via cab) and find out what gate you depart from to then make a decision which lounge to spend most time in.

Spend a little time looking down on eh little people from the balcony of the Wing and if moving to the Pier, do a little shopping on the way, take the serftymobile to the end of the long walkway and head to the Pier.

A lovely relaxing way to spend a couple of hours.

She could also try the QF and JL lounges just for the experience of it...
