Hey guys

Long time fan, first time poster! I have a tricky question...

I am flying on Singapore airlines later this year SYD - SIN - HKG (and return) on a SQ ticket and wish to credit the points/SC's to velocity as I'm approaching Gold. HOWEVER, I already have Star Alliance Gold through United Mileage Plus, and would like to take advantage of lounge access / baggage allowance benefits for this flight. I figure if I put my United FF number on the booking, I will get the benefits of *A Gold but it won't send the SC's to Velocity... is that correct?

I'm sure some whiz out there has figured out a way to do this.

Cheers

You should be able to put your Velocity number in the booking and then wave your United card as you check-in and access the lounge.

Alternatively, enter your United number on the booking, and then change it to VFF once you have entered the lounge.

I don't have my United card yet as I recently hit Gold, so I'm thinking of doing your 2nd suggestion - entering my United number on the booking and then changing it to VFF once I've entered the lounge. Has anyone had any experience doing this? I would hate the SC's to post to United. I'm also then concerned about lounge access on the return trip - could I change it to united again then back to VFF?

I've done it with another *A program and VA when flying NZ. Got the gate agent to change the FF#. My guess is that if you enter the UA # at booking it will maintain that in the system for the return until you prompt a change

Thanks TomVexille... So to avoid the risk of flights getting credited to UA, it sounds like i should change to VFF at the gate on the outbound journey, and forego the *A benefits on the return journey.

Alternatively I have the United iphone app which has a digital card - anyone had any luck using that for lounge access? (this is doubtful!)

Sorry what I was saying was that you will need to make the change again for the return, either in the lounge or at the gate.

The only way that it will work is if you as SQ ( or your travel agent) to put your UA number in with a FQTS entry and your VA number as a FQTV.

FQTS is for services ( eg lounge access and other status benefits)

FQTV is for points accrual

Need to be very careful, as a *A number will receiver preference over a VA if both entered as a FQTV

Thanks williamsf1. Just tried to add the two frequent flyer numbers too my booking (as FQTV and FQTS) but the Singapore Airlines customer service agent didn't seem to know what i was referring to, and then said only one FF# can be added to a booking. I'm guessing I can't do it myself, so.. should I try a different agent?

Very keen to be able to do this!!

Those 2 code are new to me. Are they 'universal' (ie across all or most mainstream airlines) or maybe specific to SQ or its booking engine?

Pretty much across all airlines. Google FQTS/V. Probably more a GDS thing.

Ta. Will follow up with my TA for future bookings if needs me.

For once Google was not my friend entirely :) (Don't worry, I found it properly...)

This is a optional thing that some airlines, especially Amadeus hosted use. SQ is one of them that does.. however it is more of a check in function rather than a reservations function and it cannot be done by the public online , so if reservations cannot help, try at check in
