This weekend we're flying to BKK via SIN. SQ 232 gets in to SIN Terminal 3 at 5.40pm and SQ 978 departs SIN Terminal 2 at 6.35pm. SQ has allowed the booking so I guess this must be within their connection time guidelines. I've done the terminal to terminal transfer at SIN quite a few times but I'm just not sure whether to bother aiming for the Terminal 2 lounge? Assuming we're roughly on time, do you think it's worth a shot?

I wouldn't bother. It takes a while to go through the security at each gate in Sing and they tend to start boarding at t-40 mins so you're not looking at having much spare time even if you are on time.

15-20 mins before departure the queues for security are more or less non-existent (unless at shared gate in T3, and even if this happens they will let you through ahead of those on the flight departing in 90 mins .... ), and it takes about 1 minute to go through security (If you reach the gate at T-40 it could take much longer). FYI I oftenreach the airport around T-45, and still have at least 20 mins in the lounge, after checkin and immigration.

I'd suggest the following ....

Land in A pier of T3, depart from F tier of T2 ... don't bother
Land in B pier of T3, depart from E tier of T2 ... should be OK ...

other combinations, you'll be walking past the escalators to the lounge, if you have time go there, if not nothing lost.

I think keep it as an option. Remember that sometimes flights into SIN are early as well.

As Dajop says the actual arrival and departure gate numbers can add 10-20 minutes of walking/exercise/stretching time to your transit.

If I want to check email etc, on a quick transit I pickup a free wi-fi password as I walk past one of the Information counters. Connect to wi-fi while waiting for the train.

Enjoy the journey.

Thanks everyone. It looks like I'll just keep it flexible and see how we're going for time.

I have done the exact flight numbers above a few months ago. Even when we are flying in J (ie getting out of plane early), what I found is that you don't really have time to go to lounges as the arriving and departing terminals are far away. Instead we just go and do some shopping on the way before going to security last minute to catch SQ978. I am sure the shops alone in SIN will keep you busy.
