Confused by SC?

Ok, please treat me kindly as this may be a stupid question... (flying Mel-Lon-sin-Mel with SQ)

We have an upcoming return flight to the UK and I am fiddling with family pooling. If we all pool to DH he should requal for Gold by SIN with SCs to spare then we will pool over to me to give me Silver (I don't fly much but would quite like free baggage and pre-allocated seats).

Q - if DH ends up with over 500 by the end of the Lon-Sin flight does he lose the extra or are they carried over into the next period? I assume once qual any he earns on Sin-Mel leg count to the next qualification period?

Or if all up he will be close to Platinum should we just let him have them all? Only problem with this is the 8 eligible flights thing - 4 for gold is no problem but not sure if he'll do 8?

Any advice?

The 8 eligible sectors will only be required for re-qualification, they are not counted until August this year. If it were me I would go for the platinum as the benefits are worth it, but that is my situation.

If you don't fly that often will you have any real benefit from getting Gold?

P.S, were the flights on SQ booked through VA or SQ? If they were booked and paid for through VA then they would count as eligible sectors when that comes into play I think. Maybe Virgin Australia can jump in here at any time to clarify that. I hope they will, as that is how I intend to requalify Platinum when eligible sectors come into play.

Thanks for that - I think we will get DH to platinum which with soft fall to gold still gives us 2 years lounge access for the family (we rarely travel without him) and he can take his colleagues in with him on work trips.

Can SQ flights be book through VA yet? I keep checking for ADL-SIN and VA gives me nothing suggesting SQ flights are not yet available. :?:

I can search and book PER-LHR via SIN on the VA website travelling with SQ, no problem. However it does not show me any options to get to SIN at all on its own. In fact, I cannot even get SIN to come up in the Asian destinations. Just coughet and Denpasar.

I do not know why but I can only guess that at the moment they are only offering PER - LHR as they have no other connections rom here.

Funny thing, if I try to book PER-LHR it sends me via SIN on SQ at a return price of $11,000 PER-SIN-LHR.

However if I try PER-DUB it sends me the whole way across from PER-MEL-AUH-DUB at a cost of $7,800. VA really need to get a European partner on board.

I've tried ADL, SYD - SIN and the search does nothing, not even something via BNE. There is BNE-SIN on EY a few times a week.

They must not want us stopping in Singapore for some reason.

However I would imagine that you could probably call them and they could book it over the phone?

I have almost the same question

I am gold ( status match) and have 890 sc already but only 1 sector ( I have malaysian flights and etihad credited)
my year( of gold ) ends mid july 12

if I get to 1000 sc will i get plat
will i get the upgrades etc?
and then need to get 8 sectors by july 12 or july 13??
Im too confused.

You will get Platinum if you have 1,000 Status Credits by July, the eligible sectors are not counted until August this year so will only count to requalification.
