Does anyone own a Map coffee machine? Just noticed that they are really cheap at Hardly Normal and wondered if they are any good.
I'm no coffee expert but will drink pretty much anything ( even GJ's on a good day ;) )

The biggest problem with buying the machine at Harvey Norman is having to give that store a single cent. I have found them to be unreliable and inflexible, and I cannot stand the way he expects consumers to subsidise his business through increased taxes (on online shopping) or more expensive prices (by trying to limit competition from overseas traders). Ever since that GST stunt, I haven't been into that store and haven't missed their BS one bit! Sad, as used to be a really good chain.

I have a Saeco Incanto.. Bought it at Myer about 5 years ago from some lovely lady who knew what she was talking about when it came to good machines.
Still going strong.. & makes a brilliant cup of anything :D

I'm old school. Stainless steel stovetop mokka (yay for dishwashers), a coffee grinder, and Mario's blend coffee from Tichum Creek in the Atherton Tablelands. Home - Australian Coffee at its best - Tichum Creek Coffee Mareeba
We don't froth milk - its just another thing to clean. My wife puts her mug with 2/3 cup milk and 3 teaspoons sugar (serious) in the microwave. For me, the only time I can stomach milk in coffee is when I'm not feeling 100%, such as when suffering from frost-nip at Niseko - ¥450 on the mountain for foul automatic machine milk coffee tastes great when my face is pasty due to snow burn and the toes are going blue, or when my body is protesting about the tenth coffee during a 3-hour barista course for fun.

I did see a lot of comments when i did a google search: 'map coffee machine review'.

I agree. Eveything was a hassle. Thats why I shop at DJ's or smaller shops.

coffee Machine, I went with an Netspresso, spent about $900 and it works really well and I enjoy the coffee. No mess and fast.

one of the best investments I have made.

The nespresso range is good, and often around half the price when purchased from Amazon.it, just need to use chrome browser to translate on the fly. Our household updated the old Latissima to the EN520 last week for $250 delivered.

I have a Nespresso as well, I have the Citiz with Milk model, however the milk function does not get used that often. I usually go through 2 pods a day ie approx $1.50 per day. Apart from the standard blends, Nespresso release special blends throughout the year.

The capsules are recyclable, just return them to your closest Nespresso store.

I wish Nespresso would produce a variant which could be used in Aircraft, the coffee is QF Y, J and F is substandard.

How did you get it for so cheap? I assume the machines are all 220-240V?

My Citiz is nearly 4 years old, my wife won it on a Gourmet Traveler Competition.

Our local DJs in ADL had some Nespresso machines going cheap - was thinking of grabbing the $299 one and from memory it also had $50 cashback. I also remember seeing reusable pods on Ebay - wonder if they actually work??

I'd like to get a Nespresso one - the Map reviews I've read seem to indicate they aren't so well made (cheaper, not as robust), and at the rate I drink brewed coffee, I'd need one that's going to last. If you only have a couple of cups a day though, it might be just fine for you. :)

As part of my austerity drive, I have stopped buying espresso coffee at work -- was spending up to $10 a day on coffee -- and am now using my trusty 15 year old french press / plunger instead with Vittoria coffee. Better than anything available from the cafe downstairs, who do a marvellous job of ruining their Lavazza beans, at a fraction of the cost. The downside is missing the social interaction of engaging with colleagues in the queue; have to make more use of wine time ;-)

take up smoking.

Smokers have a special political clique and know what is going on.

We're onto a Sunbeam after burning through two (or was it three? Either way, one was a hand-me-down from a friend) Krups machines. I've never used any of them. I gave Mr Katie the first one as engagement present. I guess that means I should have 2 or so more pieces of jewellery equivalent to my engagment ring??? ;)

Princess have you looked at the Netspresso range?

Yes I have and have also been impressed by the coffee ( we have one at work and we each take turns buying the pods).
I just wondered if the $79 price tag of the map machine was too good to be true?

Wow!! That's fantastic. I hate microwaving milk for my latte and can never do it properly with the steam nozzle on our Krups machine.
Stupid question: Do you use an international adapter with the plug on the Italian machine or have it replaced somehow with an Aussie plug ?
I've previously purchased US electricals ( dual voltage) and just used a universal adapter

I am just using the travel adaptor, and if it's a DeLongi, it has local warranty. Delivery was under a week, even going the long way via LOTFAP.

Not sure if the same brand but my wife's work bought the Aldi pod machine - undrinkable.

Didn't even know Aldi made coffee machines
I think the Italian Amazon route sounds very promising.
There are a few Italian electricals sold at premium prices here eg. Hairdyers that might be worth checking out as well

I've transitioned to a new manual machine, a Rancilio Silvia and a grinder - best thing I ever did. The extra work involved is very small, but the difference is huge.
