Hi,

VA GOLD here flying on EY to Abu Dhabi and I'm in the city with a 22Kg bag waiting for a 9.50 pm flight.

I know the check in desk opens at 12 for the earlier 2.50pm flight. What are my chances of them letting me check in for lounge access around 12-1pm?

Not sure why you would bother. Are you in Sydney? It is a beautiful day here for once - I would check your bag at the hotel and get out and about. Grab a burger and truffle fries from Charlie & Co at the Opera House or Westfield for lunch and enjoy the day - maybe even take in a movie. Airports are not that much fun really - even I would be hard pushed to spend all day in the SYD QF F lounge...

If the EY desk is open there should be no problem checking in for a flight today. You can then spend the afternoon lounging

I agree with Simon,s comments. 9:50pm flight, get to the airport about 5ish if you want to enjoy the lounge, that way you'll beat peak hour traffic, and also be indoors as the sun goes down and (relative) cold sets in. Otherwise make the most of a free day in Sydney! I know i'd rather be wandering about than at this silly desk for the day.

Problem is I was staying at a regional hotel, so can't check my bag at the hotel. Otherwise I'd be enjoying Sydney... unless the savvy folk here know somewhere I can dump a bag?

Great!
Thank you all so much for the help, (and the eating tips) :)

Very much appreciated guys!

The NZ lounge isn't great to spend 8hours in, not to mention you would be there for the peak rush where its very crowed. Would totally recommend that you make the most of your day in Sydney, since your on a 9.50pm flight would recommend that you had a early dinner down at the water front. Head for the airport around 6:30-7pm, the lounge food is pretty average e.g hot dogs.

Vivid Sydney is on right now. The light show starts at 6pm, you can easily spend an hour to look around Circular Quay (don't forget to walk along the water all the way around to the Hyatt), then return to the airport and enjoy your time at the lounge.
