Hi travel gurus, I need some help as I will be taking a business trip late Feb/March, and at the conclusion of this, I will be sitting on 1320 SC's. I need another 80 SC to get to Platinum (never been Platinum before, and would like to do it!) Could you kindly advise the best and easiest way to obtain this. I would prefer to spend less time doing so (was thinking JASA Sydney to Melb return, this would cost about 42k points). I presume this can be done for less money and hassle? I am located in Sydney. Thanks!

SYD-CBR return JASA 32000pts and about 130AUD. Can do it in one morning easily if you find the right day (and be back in sydney before 11am)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Or SYD-CBR return in business class for ~AUD740 and 80 SCs.

Personally I value 42,000 QFF points at a lot more than ~AUD740 and I can get 80 SCs anywhere in the world for a lot less....

Agreed, the $ burn rate on JASA is not that great when comparing to a Y/J upgrade

Well - I will be stopping in HK on the way back on this business trip. If I could get something cheap in/out of HK as a "day trip" (half day preferred), then I could try to sort something like that out?

Also, is it possible for me to book 1 JASA(for myself) and 3 classic award seats(for my family) in one booking? It didnt appear that I could do that on the website (it seems to be 1 or the other). Cheers.

If you’re based in SYD you could fly over to Auckland on a cheap ticket and fly back on the LAN J special for about $250 + the cheap ticket price/award. That would require an overnight, but it’s pretty cheap and you then have the whole day in SYD after you arrive.

The cheap OW I class fare on LAN is gone for now. The return fare is still available.

Hmm - ex-HKG you could look at XMN for HKG$5674 - 308 miles.

HKG-XMN: CX6806 09:50AM -> 11:05AM
XMN-HKG: CX6809 14:50 -> 16:20

Thanks for the suggestion Simongr.

We ended up deciding to visit some friends in Melbourne. Had my first go at redeeming flights (3 classic Y for wife and kids, and JASA for me:))
Provided I get my 80 SC's, I'm happy.

The NAN run may be a better option for the money than a LAn run, depending on where you live and how many SCs are needed.

OK ... I'm in SYD and only need 60 for WP ... and please excuse my ignorance but NAN 'run'? I've only heard of the ACK LAN run ... all advice ever so greatly appreciated!

The NAN run is the Business QF fare from BNE to NAN which allows you to fly
BNE_MEL_SYD_NAN_SYD_MEL_BNE for about AUD1300. This nets you 360SC's if you add 2 red edeals to this you have 380SC's

I am doing one of those in April combined with some JASA's and getting 520SC's in 7 days.

That is terrifically useful! And will certainly make retaining WP a lot easier! Thank you very much ozmille.

Sorry for my ignorance - never done status runs before, so am a bit new to this - how would I go about booking a ticket such as this? Reason I ask is, I am currently Gold, having done a fair bit of flying last year, but am unlikey to retain this within my membership year as am not flying as much. However, a week in Fiji is something we were thinking about anyway, so if I can combine with one of these tickets and retain status, would be great!

Any guidance greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You must have a kind and understanding wife to get away with that.

The Minister of War and Finance (aka Mrs Paddy) would probably neuter me if I left her down the back with the jnr Paddys! :shock::shock::shock:

The best way of going about booking a NAN run is having two browser screens open, one on the QF AU website and one on the QF FJ website and buy 2 one way tickets. This is generally about AUD300 cheaper.

very true :D that is why I take mrs Ozmille with me when I do JASA's or status runs. However don't tend to tell her the exact routing till we're at the airport :D Lucky she loves to travel as well I say.

Haha - this will be the second time - the first was nearly 4 years ago, when I brought them up to Singapore for a week at the end of my first Asia business trip. The kids were confused when I disappeared down a different airbridge, but she survived!
An overnight flight in QF Y for 8/9 hours will make this 90min "bus ride" a breeze :)
