For some reason TG and SQ sell their flights in Australia at higher prices and with reduced conditions , ie with no or little points.

If anyone knows of any ways around this, or overseas websites that these carriers sell their better deals on please post here.

This would be very beneficial to those who want to attain Star Gold with Aegean, because at the moment the flights that come with points are much more expensive.

For instance I know that with both SQ and TG if you book your flights in reverse, ASIA - AUS - ASIA , the flights that come with points are cheaper than if they are booked AUS - ASIA - AUS. This is only of use to people planning on returning to Asia in the relatively near future.

Not just those airlines. QF do the same. Partly because of our geographical location leading to lack of true competition I think. Have a look at "nested fares" on this forum; there is a fair bit of information there.

There's plenty of competition amongst Australians to get out of here, but not much competition amongst foreigners to travel long distances for an extremely expensive holiday!

Not sure of that logic, that would make flights cheaper here because of the competition than overseas where there is none/little and we are seeing the reverse.

Depends on your definition of competition. Competition amongst suppliers increases capacity and lowers prices. Competition amongst buyers increases demand and raises prices.

The number of seats into and out of Australia are equal. At the moment, Australian consumers will pay more, so that's where prices settle. Assuming $x is the origin-neutral price for offering a flight, presumably the airline knows exactly where the revenue maximising balance between Australians paying $(x+y) for a trip and foreigners paying $(x-z) for seats in the opposite direction is.

Go back a decade when the AUD was at US$0.50 and foreigners were lining up to get here whilst Australians couldn't afford to travel overseas - foreigners were paying a premium to get flights here.

Its not just TG and SQ doing this, and boils down to pricing a product to the market it is being sold in.

It been cheaper to get flights into Australia than out of for as long as I can remember, even in the 80's and 90's. I lived in England in that period and can remember well getting fight back from England and half what I paid to get there.

I personally wouldn't class preparedness to pay more as competition exactly, lack of competion maybe. Airlines are hardly the only thing we pay more for, and thats certainly not new.

The OP is looking for specifics if they are available for *A carriers. E.g. the Expedia.br site is a good one for QF flights, but where can we book cheaper than AU flights for TG and SQ flights that originate in Australia? And other carriers for that matter.
