Why is it that Amex - Trave Online booking has a cheaper airfare than the Qantas site? I need to book one airfare on Amex to use my membership fee of $450 and one airfare on Qantas, so I can use my points BUT I cannot find the cheaper airfare appearing on Amex site on the Qantas site. Anyone?

Qantas is not always the cheapest for their own fares.

Remember, if you book on qantas.com.au and meet all the criteria, you can get a Price Promise.

I guess it counteracts the exorbitant rates Amex charges for hotels compared to the same properties on hotels.qantas.com

I’ve given up attempting to use my Amex travel credit for anything but flights.

Have you actually tried to book the cheaper AmEx fare, that is all the way through to payment processed?

In the past I've found cheaper on AmEx but booking failed at the final payment step (being to actually pay for the booking, after $1 hold on the credit card had been made). I called AmEx Travel and they said that the fare combination is not valid and couldn't explain why it was showing on their website but agents couldn't book it. They could only quote and book the more expensive fare as per the QF site, and of course charge me a service fee for it. I had to book the final leg separately - all online - to get the cheaper flights quote overall.

Thank you all. I don’t trust anyone anymore. Qantas tracks what you are looking for and probably can manipulate the system to only show certain fares to you the user. And as for Amex. I think you may be right. I have heard where people have found a cheaper fair and upon trying to pay, found the fare did not exist at the advertised price. It’s disgusting!

To note that to get the Qantas Price Promise, you need not (in fact you MUST not) go all the way to actually booking the cheaper fare.

You just need a screen shot of it, before payment, that is time and date stamped.

THIS. Found a cheaper (price error like) hotel on Rarotonga, rang Amex, confirmed bookable, asked for email confirmation it was bookable, email received. Booked flights (biz thru velocity) to match days (2 weeks instead of 9 data). Went to book hotel via Amex.....unbookable.

Amex would offer no explanation, compensation in any form. Still had a great holiday, booking thru other channels.....and so glad we had 2 weeks there. Aitutaki for 7 days (via Luxury Escapes) was ridiculously great.

Qantas may 'track' you but it doesn't show less fares to select people. Qantas has NOT got that tech.
