skyscanner in Oct/Nov then jan-mar and found lots of deals SYD to LAX for around $740AUD its operated by Qantas sold by American Airlines.
New York from Sydney is around $840AUD !
Las Vegas from Sydney is around $794 AUD !
TORONTO Canada just $1045 AUD (around $500 less than next cheapest)
Vancouver From Sydney (Mar/Apr 16) $1008
Cheap flights from Sydney Kingsford Smith to Los Angeles International at Skyscanner
I like google flights better

please merge if another thread has been created

I could be tempted with this! New York for St Patricks day for $840 sounds too good to miss!

Oops, booked another one. Hmm Mr k_sheep may be mad when he wakes up in the morning.

BNE-JFK over Easter for $841 AUD each.

Looking to book too, says fares are refundable Q Class...is that Ok do you think....Mel-LAX or DFW $600+ US

PER-xx_-LAX in August 2015 shows about $AU1500 on the QF website and a bit more than $US700 on the AA website.

Tempting but some people think I have wandered too much already this year.

Apparently the cheap fares was a mistake made with 3rd party booking engine like skyscanner. There was an article in news.com.au
The question will be if Qantas honors the sold fares.

Qantas mistake: ‘Glitch’ causes cheap fares to Los Angeles

There were two rounds of cheap fares.

Round 1 was a couple days ago - fares starting at USD444 Australia-LAX. Other fares were available to a range of destinations. Round 1 fares have been honoured.

Round 2 was yesterday, and the fares were available through a wider range of sales channels, including AA.com and AA.com Australia.

Were the fares 'mistakes'? Qantas probably isn't too happy, and it may have been an error. But that doesn't automatically mean it was a mistake that can void the tickets either under Australian law, US law, or even under Department of Transport (USA) regulations.

At one point Qantas stated the fares were 'invalid', but later softened the position to 'incorrectly offered'.

As one who has followed much of the previous mistake fares and has actually read the DOT rulings, I do appreciate your informed view on these MEL_Traveller.!

Is it worth it to do an AA Plat Challenge on this fare? I had a look at the AA earn table but still not sure how many EQP one can get for RT ticket to NYC (25% of EQM or Actual miles flown?).

With the QF fares - probably not, as QF Q class calculate as 12.5% of flown miles. The AA code shares have increased in price after the (perhaps) error fares were corrected but still provide a reasonable deal when looked at from historical levels. The AA coded flights in Q/N would be 50% of EQM to calculate EQP.

OTOH if you need to go to the USA from Australia... the timing is on your side.

Happy wandering

Mine is a mix of domestic (QF coded) and international (AA coded) booked via 3rd party website. Even at Q level, I think EQM is 100% so EQP would be 50% of miles flown. Seems doable.

RE timing: I don't think normal price will be this low in the near future...If it is, a 2nd trip might keep my Plat status :p

I jumped on this around 10 minutes before it disappeared on AA.com. I have also just realised the BA Avios tier bonus is 100% of miles flown on AA plus 25% miles for disc Y makes this very reasonable deal.
