I've been tearing my hair out trying to work this out from the Jet* website, but it (and their call centre) are hopeless.

I'm flying later this month, MEL-SYD then SYD-HNL in "business".

Can't work out (a) can I check my bags through to HNL in MEL, or do I have to collect bags and recheck in SYD? In which case, time in the first lounge will be severely restricted as bag drop only appears to open 2 hours before flight.

(b) If I go handluggage only, do I get the international handluggage allowance on the domestic flight? (If not, as you get two bags in international business, I can check one bag, pick it up in SYD then go through security I'm assuming)

(c) It appears I can't print out boarding pass for international leg at home. If this is the case, do I have to wait until 2 hours before flight to get a boarding pass printed? Or can Qantas print for me or something? If not, this sucks, and I'm going to have max around an hour in the lounge, and 1.5 hours sitting around waiting for checkin to open!

I do CBR-SYD-HNL and check in my the bag in CBR which is great to skirt the SYD check in mess.

RE the BPs, I think I get them issued at CBR chk in after I turn up w' the etkt. Not sure about the international luggage as I go QF out of CBR.

Thanks for that - hopefully they'll at least be able to issue both BPs in Mel. Then if I don't have checked luggage (although I actually do want to take a suitcase) I can go straight through security in SYD.

I might have to brave the call centre again.

This is going back a while (can't remember how far back but it was in the day of star class), but I flew PER (JQ Codeshare on QF) - SYD - DPS (on JQ).

Had HLO, but I only got the QF BP in PER, and had to wait until check in opened in SYD for the JQ BP.

QF interlines to JQ (so far) and provides both BPs, not sure about JQ - JQ though. Surely they would, it makes no sense not to.

I'd think that you will have to collect and recheck in SYD based on the following from the JQ website

If your journey has multiple flights and begins with a domestic flight you’ll need to check in again and transfer your bags. It is your responsibility to make your connection. If you book multiple flights with Jetstar or another airline, it’s your responsibility to get to any connecting flights on time and transfer baggage. We recommend leaving at least 3 hours between flights.
Our staff at check-in will advise you whether your baggage will be transferred. You may still need to check-in at the connecting airport to obtain your next boarding pass. It remains your responsibility to ensure you make your connection.

For the international flights operated by A330/787 aircraft, doesn't check in open 3 hours prior to departure?

Yes, but I have been able to check in CBR and interline the bag. It seems that they may have that facility when it suits the 2nd pharse in the quote:

I assume that's QF to JQ, since you said CBR. QF will interline to JQ. Don't think JQ to JQ works most of the time unfortunately.

Could I rehash an old thread?
Travelling to Hawaii on Jetstar* . Will need to fly in from Adelaide on the day - with Qantas. Will Qantas Adelaide book luggage through to Honolulu? And presuming that WP still have access to FLounge?

If you take a look on the QF website in regards to the F lounge, it does say to get access, next flight must be with QF/EK/JQ/OW airline. On another thread, a WP/P1 AFF member has mentioned getting into the F lounge flying JQ dom pax on an int flight and getting into the QF SYD F lounge in the past, and succeeding.
I have flown JQ dom pax on an int flight twice, and got into the QF SYD int J lounge, one time flying JQ J, another time as a QP member, to get into SYD int J lounge, they just scanned my BP. No questions asked.
As for the other thing, (checking bags straight through from an Aust dom flight onto JQ), I am not sure about that one.

Is your travel date flexible, if you leave ADL on a Mon, you do have a choice in Y of flying QF all the way to HNL, which helps with the luggage through situation, that is what I would do if I was flexible, and have not made a booking.
Test date 04Jul16 has QF all the way, dep ADL 9.30am arr SYD 11.50am, dep SYD 22.25pm, giving ample time to get across from T3 to T1.
Coming back, Wed 20Jul16, also has QF all the way.
If you have made bookings, or if $$$ is the reason and bookings have been made, keep this idea for next time.

Will do Poochie. We didn't want to travel in Y, points bookings impossible for J to US so booked one paid Bus Max and one points Bus Max on Jetstar.
Then have made aa points bookings from HON-SEA-ANC. A real mix of pseudo F and J flights on Hawaiian Air and Alaska Air. Then American Airlines on way back to Honolulu then Jetstar onwards.

Your example makes 11 hours stopover in Sydney btw. :p

You can do a shorter connection than 11 hrs, 11 hrs while too much, I think that there is another flight that will link to the near midnight QF dep to HNL.
Can fly the 717 from ADL QF1560 dep 13.50pm to get to SYD about 16.15pm.
I see about the using points thingo. Noted.

For QF in ADL to through check luggage onto JQi SYD/HNL, both flights would have to be on the same ticket which which would mean you would've had to have booked both fights through QF irrespective of whether the SYD/HNL is marketed as QF or JQ. QF will only through check with separate pnrs when the connecting airline is a One World member or EK (which excludes JQ).

If you have booked the SYD/HNL separately via the JQ website then QF in ADL will only be able to check your bags to SYD where you'll need to collect them then take the train around to T1 and checkin with JQ. Even if you were flying JQ ADL/SYD in the same JQ pnr (or separate pnrs) to SYD/HNL JQ don't through check you bags.

The QF airside transfer bus can only be used if you have HLO as there's no room for checked baggage which of course you'll be taking if going on a cruise.

If one of you is a QF WP you will definitely be able to access the F Lounge.....once you have checked in that is. I believe JQi checkin opens approx 3 hours prior to departure.

Thanks ozbeachbabe. I was wondering how to get from Dom to Int with luggage. Never caught the train. And yes -separate Dom tickets. Might go over the night before and stay at Rydges after all! Thankfully MrP will achieve WP again.
How did you guess we are cruising again? Alaska this time.
