Have been on Solstice twice and do like the ship. It's big enough to offer a range of activities but not in the mega ship class that have ~4000 pax. Have only had Aqua Class cabins (not had a suite on this ship) but having your own dining room for the class is a real bonus - not such a bun fight as the MDR. The sky suites (the bottom level of suites) are located at the stern and do have a pole in the middle, though a friend who was in one said it did not impact on them at all. Their specialty restaurants are pretty good as well IMO. We've not done a repositioning so can't give any insight into that question. Pushka might chime in as she has been on the sister ship.

cant say im in a rush for a cruise that stops in newcastle ;)

the US routes look good though from Oz

Newcastle is a popular city to visit. Would be great for foreign visitors. Various day trips possible from that location.

I spent the recent long weekend there and was very surprised at how sophisticated it has become.

You rang Dame?

Love Solstice class ships. Modern elegance. Enjoyed both verandah and Aqua class, the latter offering its own small restaurant. I've only completed med cruises on Celebrity. Would be open to a NZ Solstice trip but not for MrP. Dame?

We cruised from Sydney to Honolulu on Celebrity Solstice in April 2013 via Noumea, Papeete, Moorea, Bora Bora & Maui loved it.
Some cruisers didn't like the 5 night stint between Tahiti and Hawaii. Relaxing time.

I knew you would be able to add to the discussion - was just a matter of when you saw the thread :) Have done the NZ itinerary on Solstice. It was pretty good though not quite the Med.

Love Celebrity, did like the the Century, sailed on her 6 times, thru the Panama Canal, Honalulu- Sydney , SouthPacific last year, then to Burma in Feb then her final 2 cruises from Singapore back to Singapore via India Oman, Dubai,India again Sri Lanka, great ship, doing the Solstice in Feb, the then Constalation in June around Croasia etc, also like the Solstice class did the Baltic's on Eclipse in June , also Silhouette around the Carribean, and Eqinox into the Holly Land, a cruise of a life time, The Milliniumn around Asia and Vietnam another Great cruise.Do like our cruising , enjoy every one.

Trying the Celebrity Solstice for the first time in Feb next year going to NZ... (first time trying Celebrity) My wife was reluctant to try as we are predominately Princess cruisers but because we are travelling with friends she succumbed to the pressure. She has this strange idea that cruise lines are all the same around the world so she likes to keep her eggs in the one basket for status reasons. Going on the Holland America Noordam in December this year with my father so will be able to compare all them.

You will enjoy Celebrity if you enjoy Princess. This loyalty thing is a bit of a trap - golden handcuffs! You must go with itinerary.

That's exactly what I said to my wife. The beauty of Princess status levels is that once you hit that level you stay there, (unlike airlines). We are about 30 cruise days short of hitting 'elite' with Princess so that is my wifes argument. We are only in our early and mid 50's so I figure we have plenty of time to hit status with a few cruise lines. We love cruising... the Celebrity cruise in February will be my 6th cruise in 12 months. (no wonder I am so fat...) :)
