CBR/SYD/MEL to GUA (Guatamala City) reward

Hi All,

I am looking for award flights for Feb 12, 2019 to Guatemala City from Canberra/Sydney/Melb. I plan to join a tour on 13th in Antigua. Need to fly out of Cancun, Mexico on/about 24th February. I have 700K VA points and 100k plus KF points. I am flying solo so looking for a shorter route. Having found great info from the group before I have in the past year been lucky to fly SQ J, F and suites on points and my research seems to tell me maybe only United is a viable option here? Is the old J route as bad as the reviews? Are there any better options/airlines for my points? Looking at J at least. Hopeful also for some practical advice on how to book suggested flight, who do I need to call/online etc. I believe I need to start to book about 330 days out which is a month plus away but want to get the plan nailed down then go for the seats. Happy to contribute a $50 for someone's effort.

Arriving into LAX on 12/2/2019 (midday-ish)
154k KF points

Connecting flight could be LAX - GUA AV 641 (Business) is an option according to united.com (Star Alliance), so should be bookable with KF miles. Doesnt seem to be searchable on Singaporeair.com, but worth a phone call to them. Could pick it up for not many extra points with KF if its an option.

Return trip - not yet open, but CAN-LAX on United should be achievable (Y/J), and then connecting to the reverse of the above.

I dont think there is any 'short' way to south america using Star Alliance outside of United?

Thanks Tizey, it actually looks better than I was looking at as far as timing getting to GUA, didn't fancy getting there at night, and to know Im on a carrier Ive some experience with would be great. I will check it out tomorrow and report back.

No probs. There was some J availability, but for a long distance trip like that particularly given you've got the points... why wouldnt you go for F?

Just booked the one way award for 152,500 F MEL-LAX and J to GUA. I don’t anticipate any issues booking the return flights when they open up. I’m new to this but will now pm you for details re compensation for your help. I truly wouldn’t have come up with this by myself.
