Hi everyone,

Looking for any suggestions both as to a suitable destination to get to from NY and also what I can do to maximise QF SC return without doing a proper status run. My wife just wouldn't understand!!

We are in the US for almost a month, coming home 19th June and have 4/5 days spare at the end. As I definately don't want to be doing any more shopping in NYC suggested to my other half that we could either fly down to Miami or spend a few days in a Caribbean resort returning via NYC to come home (we are booked on QF108).

My status year ends 30 June and I'm 160 credits short of Gold so would like to try and get there. We are only leisure traveller's but will be travelling more in the next few years so probably in a good position to retain at least Gold going forward. With family now spread out in Melb and Brisb, a lot of our domestic flying is going to be Y so would like to access the lounges when we can

I was thinking of going to Cable beach in Nassau but from the AA site, the cost even of instant upgrade fares is a bit scary at just over 2K which on top of accommodation may make it hard to justify. I did notice on the site flights to San Juan which is down near Puerto Rico. Seems that this what's called an American Territory and AA at least has lot's of flights going there. Looks fairly interesting though I don't know much about it

At the end of the day, am looking for somewhere not too expensive to go where we can just relax on a beach and hopefully at the same time do enough to get myself to Gold so would appreciate any suggestions you might have.

Hey there Nick,

I do a lot of connections from Aus via LAX and the SC earn/cost ratio is great to Panama and Aruba. Cant tell you from NTC specifically. Keep in mind though that the interational AA airfares are ¨just¨J, where as all the earn within the US should be easily done as F. The internal flights in F are the sweet spot.

The problem with YUPPS to the Carribean is that you book into J class so less SCs.better to fly to and from MIA.Now flying into MIA has been a hassle in the past but reports are that it has improved recently as more of the rebuilding work has finished.
Just had a look at 2 places I have been-Barbados(BGI) and Curacao(CUR).Now no YUPPS to BGI but a business special is $370 to and $409 back. Now Barbados has lots to do including drinking rum, snorkelling, drinking rum, watch a local cricket match, drinking rum-so you get the picture.Going back in November.
CUR is a place i love.really picturesque capital.loved the Hilton there-very laid back.YUPP in June is $325 and $368 from MIA or $425 and $461 from JFK-only problem is both legs are just under 1200 miles which does reduce the SCs.From JFK in the instant upgrade selection you are ofered getting to MIA via BOS for $480 which increases the SCs from 150 to 240.Not a bad deal.

I did NYC-MIA-SJU return back last september. Loved Puerto Rico. Perfect place to relax either by the pool or at the beach. No need for visa's into PR or back to the US as it's considered a US territory.

I went to St Vincent and the Grenadines recently which was very nice. Lots of yachties though. Some very beautiful islands/scenery.
