Hi everyone, our family is travelling up to Brisbane at Easter and we are looking to hire a car for 4 days.

I don't know if I am missing something but Hertz, Budget and Avis are $300 more than Thrifty and Europcar, which is a huge difference.

Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on why, Budget is certainly not budget but way more expensive. Has anyone used Thrifty or Europcar?

Thankyou for any info you may have :)

We used thrifty extensively for work, cars were always fine, but when travelling on personal $ I tend to use Avis or Hertz which are generally pretty good to me with free upgrades.

Prices are generally based on demand. Check your aggregators like the Qantas/virgin car rental portals, and try the discount codes that come with your NRMA/RAC equivalent to see if you can get the price down.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Europcar have equally good cars as avis etc. Thrifty I found the cars a bit older but still fine.
Europcar you can get a discount with accor but also through VA and with thrifty. It is easter so guaranteed expensive especially if pick up from an airport. May be worth comparing pick up from elsewhere.

avis budget hertz are ok. I think budget have generally had my favourite personnel.
You may find some adverts in travel magazines for discounts or vroomvroomvroom.com.au I think?

There are probably some other cheaper ones too - non branded.

I have used economycarrentals.com in several locations. They are a third party and most of the time you get a rental car in a slightly off-airport location with Bargain Car Rentals (they usually have shuttles), but considering the savings we did (about 50% off and more included mileage for same type of car) then I was happy with that inconvenience.
