Ok, so I couldn't really think of a title that accurately describes my situation:

1. Return Jetstar booking for MEL-SYD-MEL for 2 passengers on same flights and same PNR
2. One passenger (myself) wish to forfeit the first MEL-SYD leg, but my girlfriend still wishes to travel on this leg
3. I am now coming from ADL-SYD so don't require the MEL-SYD flight
4. Both of us wish to travel back on the SYD-MEL leg of the flight

Now if I leave things as is and my girlfriend checks in on time but I don't (because I will be in ADL) and thus forfeit that leg is this all fine? Or should my girlfriend check in for me too and take my boarding pass with her, or just mention to the gate agents that I can't make it?

Second part is if the above works fine is my second leg (and my girlfriends) still valid for the return SYD-MEL on the same PNR?

The thing is to call up and try and cancel this one leg out of the itinerary will I am guessing be a lot of hassle when I can't receive any money back and they will probably try to charge me just to cancel!

So can anyone see any problems if I just don't rock up for the first leg? Will all other parts of the itinerary still be valid?

Split the Itinerary so you are under one PNR and your partner under a different PNR.

Then you will be able to leave your partner's PNR alone, whilst changing your segments. You may end up being charged change/cancellations fees, however it is a better outcome than forfeiting the fare.

Is this easy to do? I agree it would be good to separate the itineraries before starting to fiddle and create problems and issues with both passengers.

Yes it is pretty straight forward. You will need to contact JQ, and ask for them to split it (one PNR for you, one for your partner)

Was easy enough to separate the itinerary in to 2 different PNR's over the phone, so now have the two different tickets.

So now my question is much simpler:

If I do not fly my first flight does it void my return flight?

Looking for anyone who has first hand experience. I will still jump on the phone to jetstar and find out what they say, didn't want to complicate things too much by doing it all over the phone in one go.

Ok.

I had booked a cheap Jetstar return flight for two using a price match on Tiger. Was booked well in advance as was a footy weekend away with friends.
So was MEL Gold Coast return.

The week of travel I had to at short notice go to SYD for work. As it was the sane cost work happily paid for e to fly on to the Gold Coast instead of a return to MEL.

My ticket was use it or lose it. So I rang Jetstar. They advised that if I missed the first leg, that it would not affect the return leg nor y wife flying up. So I just forfeited the first leg. y wife flew return, and I just did OW.

Awesome thanks lovetravellingoz, I am in the exact same position, work trip came up so will now be flying from OLP to SYD, then back to MEL. But sounds like it was all ok, I guess these days with all domestic sectors done as one way individual bookings missing one flight in the lot shouldn't affect all others.
