Can Gold still request to move to Plat seating zone at T-48?

Having soft landed to Gold after a year as Plat I just was hoping to get the latest experiences of calling up the Gold line to request seats in the 'Plat zone'. I think I used to be able to do it at T-48. Flying on the 777 to LAX so there are generally just one or two plats in the Plat zone in Y. And not too many more golds from prev experience (of watching the manager having a chat and handing out the express passes to plats and golds).
Any golds have any recent experience calling up, or been able to change seating zones online?

What is the platinum zone on the 777? I fly in Y and generally go for the first row (20 or whatever).

Always looking for a better seat though.... Any ideas?

I'm looking to move to row 20 (20C and 20H are absolute favourites for me). Rows 20-24 are currently blocked for me.
