By the end of the year I will for the first time be moving from Bronze to Gold status with QFF.

Not long after I attain Gold I have a flight booked from LHR to JFK with BA, I know I can use the BA lounge with my Gold status however can I also bring a guest in that is travelling with me or is it only me that is allowed in?

Also how long after I reach Gold will it take to get my new card? I'm based in London so I'm assuming that could take a bit longer than normal.

Yes you are allowed to bring in a guest as per the access rules from Qantas website.

Qantas Lounge Access said:
Access to Partner airline lounges

In addition to Qantas Club lounges, you can relax in British Airways lounges (Terraces and Executive Club lounges) and American Airlines® Admirals Club lounges.

To access a partner airline lounge, simply present your Qantas Club card or Platinum or Gold Frequent Flyer card at check-in and again with your boarding pass at the lounge reception. You may also invite a guest. Note: both you and your guest must be travelling together and have onward travel that day on a flight marketed and operated by the partner airline whose lounge you wish to visit.***

*** Marketed and operated means a flight operated by the same airline whose flight number appears on your ticket. Includes American Airlines® or British Airways operated flights with a 'QF' flight number on your ticket.

It generally takes up to 2 weeks to receive the Gold membership kit. If card has not arrived by the time of your flight then print out the status details of your QFF account and keep a copy with you. The status should also be shown on the boarding pass but not sure how strict they will be with lounge access without a card.

Thanks JohnK,

I thought I had searched the Qantas site enough and I had even searched the oneworld site but I obviously not very good at find the details!

The flight where I wanted to use the lounge is about 2 months after I reach gold so looks like I should have the card in plenty of time. I was a bit worried as when I reached silver on Virgin Atlantic it took me about 6 months to get the new card!

Note that the guest must be flying that day on a OneWorld operated and marketed flight.

The way I interpret it, is that the guest must be travelling together with the Oneworld Sapphire or Emerald member on a Oneworld operated and marketed flight that day to have access to the lounge.

QF's rule for their Gold member's lounge access with a guest to a Qantas Club lounge is that the guest must be travelling with the member. But for OneWorld Sapphire members, they just state that the guest must be travelling with OneWorld (marketed and operated).

Just how BA define it I am not sure.

My friend and I are on the same booking so hopefully there won't be any problems. She's really looking forward to it as she has never had access to the lounges before.

BA's rule is that the guest has to be travelling on the same flight as the Sapphire Member; obviously there are exceptions where ppl have been let in regardless, but that is the standard policy
