Has anybody been affected by the weather in CNS? We have had 3 go around within the last 45 mins.

It's just the wet season :)

Some particular strong storms through in the last several hours though.

Today is the once-a-year road-cutting flooding ;)

It was absolutely bucketing down at 4:45am this morning on the way to airport this morning, could barely see 30 metres ahead when driving, but that cell had passed by departure time so wasn't too bad. We departed to the north this morning... very rare, but nice for a change. Good to see the wet has finally arrived, though I only get to enjoy it at the weekends lately.

Thomatis Creek has flooded again with last night's rain. But it's a bit worse this year - the kiddies had to be sent home from Yorkeys - water's still rising ;)

I agree dfcatch.. even though it is a bit late this year (barely anything in January or February) it has hit with a bit more intensity than usual. Will be interesting to see how long it lasts. I'm just hoping the cyclones hold off so I don't have to try to make a dash home anytime... Driving out to Gordonvale yesterday and there seemed to be more water lying around than usual. For Thomatis to be cut and Yorkeys, that really normally only happens in the wake of a cyclone or a severe event.

When do they think the low will become a cyclone?

Well coincidentally - when the monsoon trough drops down it also happens to form lows along it which tend to become cyclones :)

Last year's Thomatis flooding was only 24 hours and just monsoon related.

I rather prefer the cyclones though (as long as they don't make landfall with force) as they tend to suck in all the surrounding weather and you are left with clear skies (as long as you're not at sea when they form above you as that's no fun).

My least favourite is a cyclone in the gulf (usually connected with a coral sea low). The severe weather you get being sandwiched in the middle sucks balls IMHO.

I'm sure the real meteorologists have a proper name/descriptor for it.

Cool, and if you are still there Tuesday you can do it in person!
Made it in and out on Sat; apart from an occasional light shower, weather was fine but very humid. Walked from the top of the Castle Hill lookout (dropped off here by cab) to the Strand, and then into town, had lunch in a pub near Flinders St and cab back to airport in a touch over 3 hours. Thank God for the shower facilities at Tsv QC! Tsv city is not a place I will be visiting again in a hurry....

Raining this morning in Cairns, 60mm's so far. Looks like flights
haven't been affected.
