Jeez. I remember the Air China crash at Kai Tak back in the 90s where a plane went off the end of the runway and it's tail had to be blown off.

Air Traffic Control audio has been leaked of a near miss with an Air China Airbus 320 almost flying into terrain near HKG

All of the SIDs want you to go to about 7 miles before the turn. He'd be lucky to be at half of that.

The FMCs should would have known the correct tracks. I wonder what was actually loaded, and what navigation mode they were in.

Except that was a China Airlines crash (Taiwan carrier).

Air China did have a tragic encounter with terrain when trying to land on a flight from PEK-PUS in 2002, killing 129 of the 166 on board.
