I'm wanting to buy a pair of the Bose QC15 headphones. Of course they are $AUD499 here and $US299 in the US, about $AUD330 in HK and about 300+ Euros in Germany (ie similar to Australian price). However I'm flying via Singapore to Frankfurt in 4 weeks. I was hoping to see if i can buy them at Changi.

Anyone seen them for sale there and remember the price? I can find an store that sells apple (Bose and Apple seem to be friendly and similar in their price setting practises, plus you can buy bose from the apple store). I can see other stores and a Sony store also, which is no help by browsing the website.

I'll be taking some sennheiser earplugs with me anyway, so not relying on it. If I can't get them there, I'll use a proxy address and buy from the USA.

Hey Justin,

I'll be in SIN on Friday & Sat - can check out the price and availability for you and let you know. :D

Got back from SIN this morning, and was able to find the headphones at one of the electronics stores at the airport.

Only marginally cheaper than AU - SGD559

Niemann is correct - Chiangi isn't always so cheap; I've picked up stuff in SIN city for less, but they may not be an option for you if it's a short stopover for you.

I've got some Sennheiser's and they work great for me, but understand your reasoning for wanting to go the full noise cancelling experience . . . .

Thanks for doing that. Greatly appreciated. Looks like I might need to try and get them from the USA or Hong Kong somehow.

I've got sennheiser ear buds, which do a great job, but i don't find them comfortable to wear for more than a couple of hours at a time. I'm looking at other brands etc as well, but the Bose QC15 while expensive, seem to be the ultimate for over the ear NC headphones....

Amazon have them for $299, not sure if they ship to OZ.

They don't (checked the QC15 and all other offered sellers). But there are plenty of companies that will accept products from the US and on-ship, or alternatively you tell them what to order and they order it, and on-send...

I can now finally update this thread. Bought a pair in Aruba for USD $279 and no sales tax!!

I did look in Changi, but I ended up buying a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7b's. They are pretty damn good. Reviews seem good and I'm very happy with them. So much so that i tried the Bose's in the plane trip back with the guy next to me and vice versa. Both of us actually preferred the Audio-Technicas.

Still the guy on the plane said he can't fault the Bose service. He had a small problem with the headstrap. They just gave him a new pair. I also think the bose had a better sound regarding bass, but the Audio-Technicas were better at noise reduction and also work without a bettery in them. Ie just passive cancellation only.

Don't buy Bose. AudioTechnica are fantastic as are about 10 other brands. For some reason Bose have this prestiege branding attached to them when they're not that good. They're good but for the money you can get better or the same or better for less.

For good NC headphones look for:

1. Ones that work without battery as well as with battery.
2. inline volume control so that when the Captain or someone starts to speak you can kill the volume.
3. Ones that take AAA batteries so that if you run out of batteries during the flight you can just pop another one in...
4. With all of the above ticked off, the cheapest one. Spending big on NC headphones are a waste because the source of the sound is cough to begin with. The sound from the planes are worse than MP3 level. Even if you have MP3's unless they are at massive bit rates the good headphones are useless.

Given the AudioTechnicas in Australia are half the price of the Bose and also the fact you can shop around for a cheaper price on the Audio-Technicas where as Bose do an Apple and restrict the rpice and where you can buy from.

My grip is no real cut off or volume switch. And the ATH-ANC7b's do such a good job of passive noise reduction, even turning off the active noise reduction, it was still hard to hear the captain or flight attendant. Still its easy enough to slip one side of the headphones off an ear.
