Hi,

I'm a WP and am travelling to Cairns with a couple of mates in July. I want to treat us to Business Class via the Platinum complimentary upgrades.

When I dummy book for 2 pax, there is Business Reward availability. However this disappears with 3 pax. The particular flight I am looking at has 0 Business class seats already taken.

Given I don't want us to waste $ on a Freedom fare if we are not getting upgraded, my question is how likely it is we will be able to be upgraded closer to the date? Or if I call Velocity is there any chance they might allow us to upgrade immediately?

Thanks in advance!

It reflects the number of rewards seats which have been made available on the flight.

Calling Velocity wont be able to help. It's down to "revenue management" to release the availability which can occur prior to departure.

If you have a freedom fare you can use the complimentary upgrade at the lounge. However, if you "waitlist" they will deduct the points.

Have you considered using points for the two rewards seats and then buying the third (remember to use a 10% off code)? It may work out cheaper. Of course it depends if you want to full points and SC earn.
