Hi all,

Looking for any advice/assistance in making bookings for 2 adults and 1 infant (13 months at intended travel time),

Brisbane to Tokyo anytime on or after 27th December for at least 2 weeks.

Am WP with 700k Qantas points and also 250k Amex membership rewards points to play with, and would like to fly PE or J.

Would be willing to negotiate handsome reward for anyone who can come up with a magic suggestion.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi Aaron

27 December is one of the busiest travel days of the year so I would not expect any QF availability - a quick check shows no J availability SYD-NRT.

Instead I would transfer 240K Amex points to Malaysia Enrich, which will require 120K pp BNE-NRT via KUL in J and have much better availability.

Looking at your requested dates there is Business Class availability for 2 x adult pax:

27/12 BNE-KUL MH134 23:20-05:30
28/12 KUL-NRT MH70 10:50-19:00

And coming back there's the same 2 x pax J availability leaving NRT on each of 15, 17, 20 and 22 Jan
NRT-KUL MH89 10:30-17:00
(overnight in KUL)
KUL-BNE MH135 09:45-20:10

Infants under 24 months do not require their own seat and can sit on your lap so you will only need to purchase 2 seats.

As a QF WP you will have access to MH's FLounge in KL in both directions.

Please let me know if you have any other questions - I'm unsure of what the taxes and surcharges would be but I believe they would be less than QF would charge.

Another option for coming home is JAL, there is availability on the 16th of Jan for 2 in J, for NRT-SYD direct, then QF to BNE. UPDATE: This disappeared between searches - maybe worth giving QF a ring to see what they can see.

Only a single J seat on the way up unfortunately, so smit0847's MH option is probably your best bet. There are a couple of Y seats on the 28th SYD-NRT, which would at least give you an F lounge visit to numb the pain of Y :)

I assume you can book JL J with MH points just as you could with QF points? I also assume it would be better value to book with MH points given how poor the value of QF points are?

You could also purchase LM and travel with TG via BKK... Much better availability that way!

Plenty of availability with JL to/from SYD in Y...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Would you consider JetStar Business Class?

About $500 each way direct Gold Coast (OOL) to Tokyo (NRT)

And there's availability December?? best I could find with jetstar is almost $1000 each way per person in economy!

where abouts are you looking? or would you prefer a PM?

cheers

Does anybody know of any other options??

The MH option sounded great, but my wife says she won't get on an MH flight now.

A quick look at Asia Miles does not show any CX availability for the dates you want, but you could always call them up and check JL availability.

80K Asia Miles points for return J BNE-NRT with JL, not sure of the taxes (pending availability of course).

I know its only March but you are leaving it pretty late for the busiest travel period of the year.

+1

If you want the best chance of getting award seats, aim for 330+ days out, 350+ days for the more popular routes (e.g. SYD-LAX-SYD). First in best dressed :D
