Brisbane Lounge Refurbishment

Interesting news today when I collected my car from Valet. There is a new temp drop off point starting next monday and collection will be over at the Short Term Car Park Level 4. When I asked why, they said that there is a major refurb of the lounge. Priority entry like Sydney & Melbourne, making it significantly larger and the whole process will take 15 months! Ideally same standard as Sydney & Melbourne.

And FWIW - the Boiled eggs where there for Breakfast - as well as the Baked Beans!

Wondered when it was going to happen (Premium Entry) for BNE Be a great addition in avoiding the general terminal!

Anyone able to shed some official web links I wonder... - I'm in the BNE Lounge Saturday, I'll have to ask the Lounge Angels then for more (if any) details.

There is a flyer in the valet section which explains the valet changes, but I did not see any notice about the refurb...

Great news - sounds like a very extensive project that will be well worth the wait!

(I've also noticed more hot breakfast options - scrambled eggs in MEL)

Damm... so Melbourne gets stuck with the Premium exit from the lounge instead of the much better dedicated entrances of Sydney and now Brisbane.

So both Qantas and Virgin Australia will have lounge work in BNE... but wow, 15 months is a long time!

I don't think it will be a great problem. The premium entry in Sydney is so that you can avoid the great unwashed at security. You will get the same effect in MEL coming out of the lounge. I've never had issues or delays in getting to the Lounge in MEL through the concourse, but there are always delays at security when you leave the lounge.

I know there's a more recent thread, but I'm on the iPhone and struggling to find it, but the next stage of the VA BNE lounge is open. The entry now takes you through the space previously occupied by the "quiet zone" (to the right of where the old entry was). The existing food area has all now been boarded up and a temporary one is now where the original windows were. It actually looks pretty good. I'm more impressed than by what I saw after the previous soft opening!

Small update; Received the August edition of VFF early this morning, seems Premium Entry has been now pushed back a month...

Brisbane lounge is getting a facelift
The expansion of the Virgin Australia lounge in Brisbane will be complete in September and will see the space double in size. One of the unique features of the transformation includes ‘Premium Entry’, allowing you to enter the lounge straight from kerbside valet.

Though I do hope (And believe somewhat) you are right - Even though the update they gave afew days ago was not til September for a full open. They were promoting in an open letter August, and business love using that to mean the last day of the month too.
Or is there still other parts to be finished off?

There were two areas left. The premium entry and the kitchen area. Perhaps the kitchen area is still being worked on!

I was also advised that the coffee shop will be sacrificed for retail .

Kitchen Area? We don't see that do we... Or you mean the serving area...

And you mean the side lounge? For retail? I liked going in the side lounge away from everyone else in peak...

Unfortunately I've committed a twin faux pas this year in both not flying much and reading AFF very sporadically. Given the chatter in the past about the premium entry in BNE I assumed it must have been opened a while back and, spotting the sign on the exterior of the building, decided to head around the corner.

It was only after approaching the counter inside the downstairs doors and having my fly-ahead attempt thwarted that I thought I'd ask if the new premium entry was popular - the Angel said we were the first person to use it. Taking photos of the security screeners seemed like a bad idea and the good spots in the lift/escalator/stairwell recess were taken up by a professional photographer team taking PR snaps.

Upstairs looked complete; I didn't walk all the way around the lounge but I didn't spot any further areas of construction, and the downstairs Angel did say that upstairs was now open as well.

We might not see it, but it still needs doing......a combined kitchen and servery. Last time I was these a few weeks ago, they were still using the temporary servery.

Yes, the little "side" lounge. It was one of those little secrets. The main lounge could be overflowing and only a few bods in the liklik lounge! Such a shame.
