Hi,

If I'm travelling BNE-SYD in business class on QF, but on a BA ticket, can I bring a non-travelling guest into the QF Business Lounge in Brisbane? I don't have status. It's a BA ticket because I'm connecting to BA16, also flying in business.

No if you're ticketed on the BA codeshare. Yes if you're ticketed on the QF prime.

See Lounge Locations | Australia | Brisbane Domestic

If you keep your finger over the "sold as BAxx_x" when flashing the BP you might get away with it. In my experience they don't pay too much attention at BNE.

You will have a QF BP with "Business" printed in large letters. That's all they look for - just show it as you walk past (don't stop).

Thank you all for your replies. Sorry for the delay in responding. Work kept me a bit busy.

Here's the situation I have.

I'm travelling BNE-SYD on QF521 but on a BA ticket. Travelling in business class. I'm planning on arriving at BNE at around 09:30. That afternoon we're departing SYD on BA16 in CW.

A friend will be driving us to the airport. She looks after her husband who has advanced dementia. As a result, she doesn't get out much, and they do need to watch their pennies a bit. (She's not the crazy old cat lady that that last sentence might suggest though. :) )

Naturally, we can take her to a cafe on the way or in the airport, but she's the type of person who doesn't want people to go spending their money on her. I had hoped we'd be able to guest her in, but obviously we're not able to. I don't want to do anything dodgy because if we were denied entry at the door for a reason other than capacity, she'd be really embarassed. Would we be any more likely to be allowed to guest someone into the Qantas Club instead of the Business Lounge? I'd dont' think Qantas has single visit paid access to their lounges. I'd happily pay for it, just as long as our friend doesn't realise that's what we did. :)

This isn't anywhere close to a "dying wish" type scenario or anything of that nature, so I don't want anyone to go out of their way or do something that might get them into strife. I was hoping there might be a ligitimate way of doing it. I've described the situation here. If there's a way, there's a way. If there's not, there's not. Either way, thanks again for your replies.

What may work for you, is to enter alone, head right at the desk into the Business lounge and get a seat. Then some minutes afterward, walk to the desk and stand on the side at the entrance, making sure to catch the Angel's eye (if they see you come from the business lounge, they likely wouldn't question you going back in), and usher your guest in. Not entirely 'legitimate', but you will also get a chance to check capacity and avoid any embarrassment.

Thanks for the suggestion.

So you're on qf521, with that flight number showing on the boarding pass? If so then you have access with one guest who doesn't need to be travelling. Easy. No need to do anything dodgy at all

Domestic Business

Next onward flight that day must be on a Qantas or Emirates flight.

One guest allowed and does not need to be travelling.

It's QF521, but it's actually ticketed as a BA flight. I initially looked at the section you quoted. Then I looked at this:

International Business oneworld Customers

Eligible if travelling on a Qantas domestic flight connecting to or from a oneworld flight in International Business on the same day
No guest allowed.

You're not travelling on international business, it's domestic business.

The only question is whether it's a qantas flight number ie qf521, or a BA flight number on the boarding pass.

So not actually QF 521 but in reality BA *521 as a code share with QF 521?

Personally, I think you'll be fine as you'll have qantas card stock boarding pass with business in big letters. Technically it comes down to the flight number displayed. I totally understand you don't want to turn up to the airport to be rejected since you've missed the cafe on the way option.

You could try online check in to see which flight number is displayed on the boarding pass.

The boarding pass will always display the flight number of the operating flight ie QF521 then underneath in tiny font it would say "sold as BA7xx_".

Same as flying BNE/POM on PX4 where the boarding pass will always reflect the operating carriers flight number but pax booked on the QF codeshare flight would have "sold as QF349" as a comment which the lounge would look at if you were trying to get lounge access as a WP in whY.

I don't think they would look as closely at the "sold as" bit at domestic lounges as that doesn't determine if you get access or not - only if you can guest someone.
