Nobody has posted this for a while, so I'll provide some info for those looking to book infant tickets.

Step 1) Book your adult tickets as normal online
Step 2) Call Krisflyer, add infant to any adult pax
Step 3) Brace yourself for what comes next
Step 4) Each infant will be charged at 10% of the revenue fare for the entire itinerary based on the price as of when you made the award booking. This especially hurts when booking one-way tickets where the price will often be the same or close to the cost of a return.
Step 5) Ask for bassinet seats even if your infant won't use them. In business class, the bassinet seats have additional space and legroom and are practically mini-first class suites instead of standard business class seats. With an infant, you'll trump any PPS member already in those seats.

Personally, I find the revenue fare cost for an award ticket quite disgusting. Some airlines, like QFF and Enrich - do not command outrageous fees for infants travelling with adults booking on award tickets.

thanks TTR - very helpful.

do you know if it's the same for a *A award? how much does QF charge? and any ideas about LM?

We have a one-way economy redemption next month CNX-SIN-SYD and it cost AUD80 to add infant to booking. Quite happy with that deal.

And we upper deck bassinet pre-allocated.

I just booked one over the long weekend for our ~8month old bub in P.E.
full fare was ~$1800 one way so was expecting under $200 going by the 10% rule but it was ~$280.

On the return we're coming back in J, have emailed them to add the bub so lets see what $ they come back with.

first time travelling with a bub, How do other J passengers take it generally?

Just my $0.02 worth but lovers will be lovers and haters will be haters. I have travelled on a few international F and J flights with my son who is now 3. I have had a gamut of reactions, from very audible sighs and dirty looks through to compliments and smiles. I spend the majority of the flight keeping him entertained and happy and that tends to do the trick.

When booking on SQ generally for infant tickets, make sure they book the infant into a "D class" fare (which is the cheapest class IIRC).

The sweet spot in this program however is the ability to use the infant ticket even if the infant turns 2 during the journey :) So, if timed properly, you can get a seat for your kid all the way to ~3 years old :)
You will need to call up SQ to make sure they block off a seat beside the adult pax.

Another way around this - if you book SQ awards through VA's booking system using Velocity points there's no charge for the infant.

I booked return mixed class reward from PER-SIN-LHR for July/Aug 2017 (under the old points system and mixed class booking J-F) and it cost me approx. $1100 AUD for the infant (and yes you have to pay the credit card surcharge 1.3% I think)

They never mention the fine print, which is the 10% doesn't include any of the taxes and surcharges.
