Booked a non-changeable non-refundable room on the wrong date - Do I have options?

The thread title says it all.

Like a moron I booked a room on hotels.com and I chose the cheapest room option which is non-changeable.

Once the email confirmation came through I realised that I booked for 1 day later than I intended.

I've called them twice and they won't let me change the booking, not even for a fee. I have to make a whole new booking and say goodbye to my original payment. I have "silver" status with hotels.com but I don't think that means much.

I've called the hotel too (Sebel Surry Hills). They say they can't do anything and I need to sort it out with hotels.com.

Has anyone been in this situation before? Any helpful advice?

Not a lot of options I'm afraid but if you regularly book through Hotels.com then they would be keen to keep a loyal customer happy given the often transient nature of their site so might be worth speaking to a supervisor and asking for a credit if a change isn't possible.

I made a similar mistake when booking through an online hotel website, similar to hotels.com.

I booked a hotel room for the right date but the wrong month, so an obvious honest mistake and was noticed within a couple of hours of booking. They wouldn't budge on it until I suggested I would try and have it resolved through their extensive social media presence. Was refunded immediately.

In my situation, honest mistake and obviously so. It really irked me that they would be totally inflexible. If my situation had changed and I was simply trying to get out of non-refundable booking, then I'd cop it on the chin.
